![]() ![]() So scared I would drop him, boy, it gave me a fright. His finger paintings from pre-school, the crayons he ate, The tears in his eyes, when he entered the school gate. The brand new push bike, the beaming smile on his face. "Look Dad !!!! Look how fast I can race". The first fishing excursion, the bait and the hooks, its lasted 5 minutes, "Dad, can we play on the rocks. The first indecision, "In trouble Dad, what do I do". "Do what you know is right Son."The smiles when he got through. The trophies from footy, the knocks and the bruises. "Scored a try today Dad, we aint the loosers". Sons soon turn to teens and teens to young men, the broken hearts and the girlfriends, lost count after ten. "Time to move out Dad, I need my own lean-to". the many sleepless nights wondering what he is up to. Things all seem so well, my young boys now a man, The phone stops a ringing, Dads not even in the plan. Dont know why it happened, just cant understand, The police knock on my door, "Sir, your Son is no more". "Come collect his possessions, he wont need them any more". But know this much Son, After all of the good times, the fun and the hard, There is one heart in this world that is permanently scarred. I am proud to call you, My Friend, My Mate, My Son, and My Hero!! I love you Son. Always have, Always will! You will always be in my heart.!!
