You will find within the Club that there are teachers, engineers, accounts, used car salesmen and women, finance and insurance brokers and students – even grand-parents

Speaking doesn’t come naturally for most of us – but with time and practise you will be able to strengthen the vocal muscles and control nervousness and the fear of speaking.

There are three core learning methods that you will experience within the Club environment.

1.      You learn by participating in the meeting. Every evening there is always the opportunity for you to participate, even in a small way. The only way to develop speaking skills is by using your voice ! So you will be involved in short segments facilitated by the co-ordinator at least once during the evening.

2.      You learn by developing a speech and delivering it to the Club. The first manual that you will receive after you join the Club is called the Communication and Leadership Manual. It is the manual that is used throughout Toastmasters World-wide to develop your speaking skills, and you receive the CTM Award (Competent Toastmaster Award) once you complete the first ten speeches.

3.      You learn by providing feedback. Throughout the meeting there are many instances where feedback on a speeches performance, or the meetings performance, is required. This skill assists you to develop strength in communicating in situations where you are not necessarily prepared, as would be the case if you were giving a Prepared Speech. You will learn this skill through observing how feedback is given by other people at the meeting, and through short mini-courses given by other members of the Club during the course of the year.
