TEAM LIST HIGHLIGHTS

A very short insight into some of the more dominating factors from each team in terms of personnel that remained in their line up throughout the year and were major contributors in the respective classifications as far as goalkicking was concerned.  These players were the main contributors and are grouped together in (F)orwards, (M)idfielders, (B)acks and (R)ookies. -c and -vc denote the nominated and preferred captain and vice captain as at season's end. Players with numbers in square brackets, eg: [15] denote their goalkicking

All statistics provided include up to Grand Final (AFL Round 22) which concludes the performances of the teams throughout the year.  IFFL PPL (Pirie Park League) effectively took over from the mantle of being IFFL#2 in previous seasons.

Addlejay Daleks(F) Judd [27], Kerr, Ball (M) D.Motlop-c; Heffernan; (B) Cole-vc; (R) Montagna, Fleming
Average points per match - 47: Highest Score - 10.10.70: Biggest Win - 23 pts: Worst Loss - 108 pts: Lowest Score - 4.3.27
Night Games used - 0; Interchanges used - 4
Season Verdict/Comment: Terrible - wooden spooners, perhaps one of the worst performing teams in recent times.  Unfortunately terrible luck in initial bidding then the team was hellbent on poaching rather than recruiting, so their list never improved.  When recruiting finally became the focus it was too little too late, and the massive bids secured good talent but forced a few walk outs due to strikes.

Monteague Hawks(F) N.Thompson [27]; Farmer [22]; Crawford, Chick (M) Johncock [24]; J.Bolton, Beaumont; (B) Jackovich-vc [13]; Tallis; (R) Ladson, McDougall
Average points per match - 69: Highest Score - 18.9.117: Biggest Win - 80 pts: Worst Loss - 68 pts: Lowest Score - 5.6.36
Night Games used - 0; Interchanges used - 0
Season Verdict/Comment: Disappointing - there were worse teams but end result would have been disappointing for a team which showed glimpses of high competitive streaks at times in the year.

Scotch Jaguars(F) Gehrig [52]; S.Burgoyne [37], Riewoldt [32], Hammil, Graham; (M) X.Clarke [10]; Kirk; (B) M.Bolton-c [12]; T.Longmuir-vc [10]; Maguire; (R) L.Ball [8]
Average points per match - 76: Highest Score - 22.8.140: Biggest Win - 62 pts: Worst Loss - 87 pts: Lowest Score - 5.6.36
Night Games used - 2; Interchanges used - 5
Season Verdict/Comment: Fair - an up and down season where the coach went AWOL for a short while but came back to reclaim the team which had in the meantime beefed up and been primed for a finals appearance.  The eventual 6th final place appeared to be well above the general ability of the team so a good finish.

Cranborne Kangaroos(F) Embley [29]; Ph.Matera; C.Jones [24]; Kingsley [32]; Riccuito; (M) S.Burns-c [21]; K.Cornes-vc; Sinclair, M.Gardiner; (B) Shattock; (R) Wells
Average points per match - 82: Highest Score - 22.11.143: Biggest Win - 59 pts: Worst Loss - 77 pts: Lowest Score - 6.10.46
Night Games used - 0; Interchanges used - 3
Season Verdict/Comment: Disappointing - promised a hell of a lot throughout the season but finished a lot lower than really they were entitled to, much better than their finish suggested.  Otherwise highly competitive throughout the year.

Longford Lizards(F) Harding [33]; S.Welsh [16]; Buckley [19]; Goodes; (M) McManus; D.White-vc; B.Holland [10]; T.Cook [14]; (B) Cameron [16], Charman; (R) Weller
Average points per match - 68: Highest Score - 23.15.153: Biggest Win - 73 pts: Worst Loss - 105 pts: Lowest Score - 4.6.30
Night Games used - 0; Interchanges used - 0
Season Verdict/Comment: Luckless - by the time the season delivered its first lot of wins and decent scores for the Lizards, the horse had well and truly bolted.  Competitive at their best, at their worst not very good.

Palmerston Magpies(F) Carey [22]; J.Longmuir [36]; Riccardi [21]; Voss; B.Johnson [37]; (M) Notting-c; Hille-vc [14]; S.Hart [15], A.Stevens; (B) S.Mitchell [4]; (R) Roberts-Thomson [3]
Average points per match - 76: Highest Score - 18.15.123: Biggest Win - 64 pts: Worst Loss - 135 pts: Lowest Score - 4.4.28
Night Games used - 1; Interchanges used - 4
Season Verdict/Comment: Fair - a season that ultimately ended on a disappointing note (not making the finals) but was for the most part a mixture of highs and lows, inconsistent form but generally quite competitive.

Piccadilly Panthers(F) B.Hall [51]; M.Richardson [33]; Cupido [32]; Mooney, Burns; (M) Ladhams-c [20]; R.O'Keefe-vc [16]; J.Johnson, Edwards, Gilbee, Goodwin, R.Harvey (B) Peckett, Solomon; (R) McCarthy, Rutten, Angwin
Average points per match - 110: Highest Score - 25.13.163: Biggest Win - 135 pts: Worst Loss - 58 pts: Lowest Score - 9.15.69
Night Games used - 2; Interchanges used - 4
Season Verdict/Comment: Excellent - Reigning premiers measured on the "Crow" barometer since half their side appears to be based on them, and for most of the season sat atop the table and looked like back to back premierships was definitely on the cards, eventual third finish no shame.

Coogee Piranhas(F) Tarrant [46]; Ablett [23]; Krakouer; (M) D.Haynes-c [26]; Sampi-vc [30]; J.Carr, L.Hodge; (B) M.Johnson; Corey; Fiora
Average points per match - 96: Highest Score - 24.30.174: Biggest Win - 64 pts: Worst Loss - 116 pts: Lowest Score - 4.13.37
Night Games used - 2; Interchanges used - 5
Season Verdict/Comment: Good - overall, but a disappointing finish.  The Piranhas held a very high spot in the league for a lot of the year but could not kick good scores against quality sides, which ultimately spent doom to their competition conquest.

Redfern Raiders(F) Neitz [65]; Tredrea [53]; Robertson [41]; Perrie, Cornes, Bruce; (M) Petrie-c [28]; Powell [17]; Coughlan, L.Brown; (B) P.Bowden-vc [22]; Piociaone, C.McGrath; (R) A.Murray
Average points per match - 124: Highest Score - 30.22.202: Biggest Win - 114 pts: Worst Loss - 111 pts: Lowest Score - 12.13.85
Night Games used - 2; Interchanges used - 4
Season Verdict/Comment: Excellent - unfortunately could not go all the way, but kicked more points than any other team and really handed out some beatings at crucial times of the year, deserved a minor premiership, but unfortunately were not able to take out the major prize.

Scarborough Sparks(F) N.Brown [52]; Medhurst [39]; Lekkas [30]; C-Collins; (M) Pavlich-c [31]; Simmonds; Eagleton; J.White; (B) Bickley; N.Brown; (R) Sandilands
Average points per match - 91: Highest Score - 23.18.156: Biggest Win - 108 pts: Worst Loss - 86 pts: Lowest Score - 1.2.8
Night Games used - 2; Interchanges used - 3
Season Verdict/Comment: Reasonably good - if luck was with the 2002 Sparks, it all but left the 2003 side who had to scrape every ounce of it together that they could.  Fortunate to make the finals, but unable to make an impact.

Gold Coast Stingers(F) B.Green [33]; Power; McKernan, McLeod; O'Loughlin; (M) Stafford-c [20]; Simpson-vc [10]; R.Jones, R.Lonie; (B) O'Bree [19]; McPhee; (R) Schammer
Average points per match - 92: Highest Score - 21.8.134: Biggest Win - 63 pts: Worst Loss - 114 pts: Lowest Score - 9.8.62
Night Games used - 2; Interchanges used - 4
Season Verdict/Comment: Quite good - very much like their brethren counterparts (Piranhas) the Stingers had quite a good season and a rather consistent one, consistently doing the deed on other teams but struggling against the frontrunners of the competition and could be pretty nasty on their day.

Western Thunder(F) Lynch [62]; Fevola [60]; Lloyd [81]; Garlick, S.Johnson, Molloy; (M) M.Carr-c [18]; R.James-vc [10]; Pike [14]; T.Johnstone; Archer, Schofield; (B) D.Cox [10]; P.Wiggins; Beasy; (R) B.Fisher; McCormick; Waite; T.Richards
Average points per match - 129: Highest Score - 31.13.199: Biggest Win - 116 pts: Worst Loss - 64 pts: Lowest Score - 14.9.93
Night Games used - 0; Interchanges used - 4
Season Verdict/Comment: Brilliant - always in the top four, kicked less than 100 points on only one occasion from memory and beat pretty much everyone else throughout the year.  Won the competition, but were very hard to beat from round 1!

Lynbrook Trotters(F) A.Rocca [36]; Milne [26], Yze [15], Rodan; (M) S.Baker [3]; (B) Hargrave-vc; Chaffey-c; Licuria, Stenglein
Average points per match - 68: Highest Score - 17.21.123: Biggest Win - 64 pts: Worst Loss - 89 pts: Lowest Score - 5.3.33
Night Games used - 1; Interchanges used - 0
Season Verdict/Comment: Disappointingly bad - the coaching staff appeared to be more preoccupied with defending poaches and launching counterattacks in this fashion than concentrating on winning games, and while in the end they won a couple of off field battles, they lost the war.  More onfield attention and ruthless recruiting campaigns were desperately needed and this team showed why it's best not to take things personally.  Only the existance of the Daleks allowed this team to avoid the wooden spoon!

Woodville Wyverns(F) Ph.Matera [62]; Pickett [40], Didak [30], McRae, Dew, N.Davis; (M) P.Chapman-vc [22]; McMahon, Koschitzke, C.Fletcher, Armstrong; (B) Rawlings-c [34]; Hahn [11]; Bartel; (R) Schneider [30]; J.Schulz
Average points per match - 107: Highest Score - 23.12.150: Biggest Win - 89 pts: Worst Loss - 49 pts: Lowest Score - 10.13.73
Night Games used - 0; Interchanges used - 4
Season Verdict/Comment: Very very good - to finish runners up means that the team has had a fantastic year where only one disappointment occurred, losing the grand final.  They had the second worse defence in the league which is quite strange considering no team beat them by 50 points, suggesting teams played at their best when they met the Wyverns - yet it also goes to show that attack is the best way to win games, as in the end their ability to kick goals was what allowed them to reach the grand final.
