Report:
Day 1 Saturday: Stickys won the toss and asked Randwick to bat and we got off to a great start with a fourth ball wicket and a second in over 3 - both to Jeremy. Would there be a repeat of Randwick's previous match collapse? Randwick's tactic to counter Jezza seemed to be to attack at all costs and we were quite comfortable with that. However, after those two quick wickets that changed and Fred Madon played a very sound steadying dig and along with Vimal Sharma put on 77 for the third wicket. Three wickets then fell for not too many and we went to tea at 5 for around 130 with that session on balance to us. The next hour however was probably one of the turning points as Jason Budzevski and Paul O'Sullivan came together and put their heads down to put on a fine 79 with only a couple of near chances. Once that partnership was broken at 193 we were back in business but it took another 9 overs and 42 runs to see Randwick off at 235 - an notable recovery after being 2 for 12. O'Sullivan's knock of 63 was critical and appropriately he was last man out. Bowling honours went to Pete with a fine 4 for 58 after taking some early stick from Fred and Jeremy again struck deep with 3 for 35 of 18. Other wickets went to Keith, James and Robert. The ground fielding was not the best, but mercifully it was one of our better days in the air with three excellent catches to Simon, two to Aaron and one to Robert. A couple of half-chances were put down but Roo waived the fines as they toughies.

Day 2 Sunday: Hopes were high as we really just need to keep things turning over at a touch more than 3 runs per over and the game was ours. TV Man was the first to go with a tickle to the keeper - 1 for 13. Greg and Aaron then settled in for a long stay with Aaron playing with great care until he smacked what looked like a certain boundary only to see Budzevski bring off a great one-handed leap to snatch it out of the air. 2 for 49. Angus was just beginning to see it nicely when he got a nasty low one - 3 for 74. Calamity then struck when Greg, looking very sound on 39, came unstuck in a bizzare way in as much as a slow loopy leg-side ball hit pad then glove to balloon up for an easy catch and it was a worrying 4 - 74. John joined James with consolidation essential and they played the remaining overs until tea with Stickys 4 for 95 and a bit behind the clock. After tea Randwick adopted a disciplined off-theory bowling tactic with an 8-1 field which nearly came off immediately with John being dropped in slips and causing each batsman to play very cautiously - in hindsight probably an error as a few boundaries at that point in the innings may have made a big difference. As the clock rolled on quick singles became important with disaster threatening at each dash and this happened with John run out at 122 and then Jeremy at 141. James decided he needed to attack but holed out for a fighting 31. With John, James and Jez gone things had turned very much in Randwick's favour and they pushed on hard for the win but Pete and Robert struck out to show Stickys still had life but we were all gone and done on 158 - possibly somewhat self-inflicted with over cautious batting. That said, Randwick bowled with great discipline, caught nearly everything that came to hand and showed better ground fielding.

On the day, the better team won a good match played in excellent spirit and they now play GCB in next weekend's final.

Sticky moments: Simon's three great catches and his unbounded enthusiasm.
