Report:
On a clear day with a wind-chill factor of minus 20 degrees, Captain Blood Duffy showed he is the worst of a team full of inept gamblers and lost yet another toss and the Troopers elected to bat. The Knife Brock was the first to slice thru with a catch to Blood at first slip that Cloudboy Stevens said sounded like the crushing of alfoil as the ball hit the icy mitt. Troopers' Dadswell and Cherri then put on 50 plus even though the Big Oven Holland bowled 4 tight overs without luck for 0/8. The Knife (2/23) set up Cherri with a fast short one that he scooped to the prodigal son Maverick Burton who has returned from a long stint in Disneyland. And didn't he announce his comeback with his usual showbiz razzamatazz taking 3/35 off six including a wicket every time Blood mumbled to the keeper that he was taking him off after this over. The Flying Frog McInerney (1/44) picked up a good caught behind to Cap'n Coverdrive with Gloves, before suffering at the hands of a rampant Dadswell (53). Then the Candyman King (1/25) spun the batters into all-day-suckers as they got stuck to the crease before one spooned a lolly to Coverdrive at mid-wicket. The Oven (0/10) came back and bowled a couple of good overs for only 2, before Blood (2/10) cleaned up the last 2 in successive balls, including a neat catch by Cloudboy which was accompanied by the usual quiet imploring of "CAAAATCH!!" by Blood. Troopers had managed 156 off 32.
Blood and the Knife started cautiously as Troopers' openers showed a bit of firepower and dug a couple into the ribs, and fingers of the Knife's cutting hand to have him retire hurt with claret running on 26 (3x4's) after another good stand of 40 plus. Coverdrive shivered his way to the middle, not from fear, but the antarctic wind whistling across Moore Park Moors. After 18 overs Stickys went to the break with Blood and Coverdrive both on 25 and some wag (who failed to own up but if found will never play in this town again!) commented that Blood should be renamed Captain Scratchy for all the finesse of his batting. He promptly slashed 3 fours and retired for 41 (5x4). Goose Burrell looked good driving with power and ease before anchoring to the crease as the castle scattered. Cloudboy (14) showed he was going to play himself in as he smashed the first ball straight back over the bowler's head. Unfortunately he got a shocker LBW after the ball took a large chunk out of his bat. Coverdrive went hard early with the flashing signature and then sauntered to retire on 40 (5x4). Maverick (17n.o.) coloured in the artwork of his return match with a 4, then a 5, then another 4 as he and the Candyman (4n.o.) saw us home comfortably in 33 overs. (Jez H. 28/7)

Sticky Moment:
As the Knife showed the pavilion his split and oozing middle finger, Candyman enquired whether that was his "Lady Finger". (NB: Not only does Captain Blood not condone such obviously sexist language in the Enlightened Stickys camp, he doesn't really understand what the Candyman meant.)
