Report:

Having choked on both semi final lollies last year, the Sticky men were not about to let the Grand Final candy fall from our clasp this time. The aura of the great man pervaded at Gough Whitlam Reserve as Captain Blood lost yet another toss but thankfully the Stickys were sent into bat. Due to the Knife's damaged blades, Cap'n Coverdrive was elevated to open with Blood, and didn't he waltz down the wicket to that offer! He gave the commuters on Unwins Bridge Road something to marvel at as he strapped himself in, fired up the V8, painted pin-stripes on the ball and drove it to all parts of the outer. Due to Gough's girth, Coverdrive (42*) and Blood (40*) worked the nico-biscuits out of their lungs as they ran more threes than you'd see at the Hellfire Club on Swinger's Night. After an 80 plus stand, first Coverdrive (3x4's) and then Blood (1x4, 1x6) retired to allow the engine room to stoke up. After a few early stutters from the dodgy gearbox, Goose lifted off with Cloudboy (33) in a run a ball 70-plus partnership. The first wicket fell at 155 after Cloudboy (5x4) was invited to push the rate, much to his glee. The Knife committed harikari for the team as he ran for 2 on East Sydney's best arm and collected a diamond googie as he was just short of his ground. Enter Calypso Maverick (26) with his exploding trigger finger who announced his arrival with the customary flick off the toes for 4. The Goose (43*) smashed a 6 over the longest boundary at cow corner and then sauntered off after nailing 3x4 and a 6. The Candyman (8) joined the party with an early 4, and shared in good partnerships with Goose and Maverick before being run out. Maverick (3x4, 1x6) flicked over square leg for six, and then fell to a skied one. The Deer, Frog and Coverdrive rounded out the innings that saw 93 come off the last 10 overs for a total of 5/206. Very defendable on Gough's large, overgrown expanses.

After the break the Roo feasted like it hasn't for a long time as 7 catches (some hard, many easy) went down, including 3 off the Deer (1/23), who thought his luck was clearly out until he conjured up a back-of-the-hand slower ball that rattled the opener's castle. After 18 overs, East Sydney were level pegging with us at 1/85 having retired McIntosh (43). Blood was quietly simmering as many of the Stickys slunk off to the corridor of mirrors for a little introspection. What a difference a durry and the coolaid makes because after the break the Candyman (1/36) spun a wicket maiden when Cloudboy held the first catch of the innings and things started looking up. The joint got real jolly as Maverick came on and turned the game on its head with 2 wickets in his first over, 1 in his second, maiden third, 2 wickets in the 5th and 1 in his last for a Sticky's season best of 6/14!! He was heard re-telling each wicket to every runner in the City-to-Surf the next morning. The Goose (0/23) and Flying Frog (0/28) chimed in for tidy spells before, fittingly, the Knife (1/16) got the last wicket in his last game for the season with a caught and bowled, which itself was ironic considering the rest of the catching, as he was playing with 2 broken fingers! (GD 11/8)

Sticky's into the Final after a 62 run win.

Sticky moments: Aaron Burton 6 for 14 off 6. How good is that!
