Report:
James resumed the reins after hi s northern safari and started well by winning the spin and batting on grey day at Gardiner. This was a big game as the Small's were equal with us at the top of the table and the winners would probably end up Minor Premiers as the Drummoyne Rats, also equal at the top looked like losing out with the loss of a bonus point. The Duff started like a fire cracker and reached double figures before Varun got a sighter. Greg had memories of the Gardiner strip and warned one and all to get onto the front foot but beginning with Varun instinct took over and he went lbw to the first of many shooters. Maverick has been regaining form over the last few weeks and today really looked the goods and with Undies took the score to 81 before chasing a wide to fall with a bottom edge snick in the over before drinks. Mindful of Greg's advice Rock managed an over going forward but then took the fatal backward step and he was on his way, another lbw. James hadn't had a bat in his hands for a few weeks and was eager to rock but bang he went, again going back. By now it was 4 for 97 with Greg back with 40n.o in his pocket but a partnership was needed. Keith got a good start but edged one and he too was in the sheds. Slem was the next to play back and again paid the price quickly followed by Admiral Pete who saw a boundary written all over a long hop and going back to pull missed it by swinging about a foot too high. Meanwhile Jez was watching all this in dismay having no difficulty because he was playing each ball about three metres down the pitch - but the scoreboard said the 'Eyes were 7-117 with 25 gone and in big trouble. We shouldn't have worried as the next 10 were as good as we're done for the season with Duff back in the middle keeping Dutch company. There were no histrionics - just sound playing through the line on the front foot to the straight ones and full blooded smacks to anything off line. They put on 85 off 10 before Jez was beaten with the second last ball putting the team first. We finished with 202 and were definitely back in the contest.

The second session opened with Slem and Varun bowling with pace, menace and movement. But the openers were up to it and began to counter punch with solid driving and deft cuts to put on 62 in good time until a ball from Pete was nicely turned off the hip - straight to Varun. That was a key break as had that shot not been intercepted the batsman was 40 n.o. and the result may have been be different. Jez came on and immediately showed his slower pace was going to be a handful as he got more assistance from the pitch and in each of his 4th, 5th and 6th overs picked up a wicket to finish with a fine 3 for 29. At drinks we were a short nose in front as they were 3 for 79 only at looking 123 off the final 18 but with no retirements. Goose brought himself and copped a bit of a bollocking but looked dangerous as there were more swings and misses than hits and he bowled without an once of luck. Duff took over and spun a tight spell for 1 for 27 off his 6. Keith (1-13) took a good catch off Duff and Greg returned the favour off Keith by taking an absolute blinder to stop the last push towards the target. Then Pete (2 for 25) topped everything with two run outs, one off his own bowling and the other a direct hit from square keg and with Slem (5/0/0/13) and Varun (6/1/0/15) back on bowling tight line and length at the end the day was ours.

Sticky moments:
No issues today - Duff and Dutch played superb knocks under pressure that put CACC back in the game then Jez got a 3-for and Greg's catch was a gasper. The middle order clearly has got to straighten itself smartly out but otherwise the 'Eyes look in not bad form going into the semi in two-weeks time.
