In this section you’ll find out about how to join our society.
Membership
To become a member of the society we recommend you first attend a meeting as a visitor (you must write you name in the attendence register). As a visitor you can bid in the society’s auction, but cannot submit lots (unless allowed to by the President). You can also purchase stamps from the circuit sheets, as long as you are supervised by another member, and have made yourself known to the Exchange Circuit Secretary. You can attend up to three meetings as a visitor before making the decision to join. For more information please refer to Section 20 of our constitution.
Once you’ve decided to become a member, then you can ask for an application form. If you are personally known to two of the members then ask them to sign the form for you and hand it back to the society along with your payment of the Nomination Fee and Annual Subscription (see below). If you are not known to the society still hand in your application and payment and the Executive Committee will decide whether you can join or not. If you are accepted you will be welcomed to the society at the next meeting. For more information on the process please refer to our constitution (Section 6).
Why Should I Join?
The main reasons for joining are:
- The fellowship of other collectors - who knows you might meet somebody who has the same interests as you, and might be able to help you.
- The opportunity to learn from experienced philatelists.
- At each meeting there’s a Sale by Tender where you can buy and sell items - sell your duplicates, and maybe pick up a bargain or two!
- You’ll be able to view displays and compete in competitions (see our programme).
- Access to an extensive philatelic library, and circuit sheets (either at meetings or at home) (see our services to members section).
You’ll also receive our journal The Fremantle Mail four times a year, in which you can submit articles and advertise.
Membership Fees (Annual Subscription)
The annual subscription is payable from 1 January each year. A nomination fee applies when you join the society. Special rates apply for junior members (the nomination fee also applies).
