Fortuna

Fortuna, called Tyche by the Greeks, the goddess of fortune, worshed both in Greece and Italy. She was represented with different attributes.

With a rudder, she was conceived as the divinity guiding and conducting the affairs of thre world; with a ball, she represented the varying unsteadiness of fortune; with Plutus, or the horn of Amalthea, she was the symbol of the the plentiful gifts of fortune.

She was more worshipped by the Romans than by the Greeks. Her worship was of great importance also at Antium and Praeneste, where her sortes or oracles were very celebrated.
