Chris Moy launched 'Folk in Focus' in May 2006 because he believed that folk musicians, and especially local folk musicians, needed more radio airplay to increase their public exposure and to raise awareness of folk music in general.

Chris has a love of music (covering most genres), which is one of the reasons he founded Valley FM 89.5 in 1999; however he is a relatively newcomer to folk music; although he has enjoyed listening to folk and world music (which many people consider to be folk music anyway) for several years.

The turning point for Chris however, was at the National Folk Festival in Canberra, Australia, in 2005. This interest in folk music became even greater at the National Folk Festival in 2006, where he was absolutely mesmerized by some of the folk music that he heard there.

So much talent exists in our immediate vicinity, and surrounding areas, that Chris became very keen to promote it further. Hence the commencement of the 'Folk in Focus' radio program. On his show, Chris plays folk and world music from all over the world, but he tries to include as much local (ACT and surrounds) and national music as possible.

Folk musicians are invited to send any promotional CDs to the postal address under 'Contacts' (at the bottom of this page). Some of the music played on this show has been provided by the Australian Music Radio Airplay Project (AMRAP), which is a community radio initiative, funded by the Commonwealth Government, to help promote Australian musicians.

Since commencing his own folk music show, Chris has met a number of like-minded folkies who also present folk programs on other community radio stations. You'll find links to their respective programs on this website under "Links To Radio Things".
