Lucy initially started writing romance when she was 17 years
old, having read her way through her mother's bookshelf of Mills
& Boon from the age of 15. After meeting and marrying the man
of her dreams, the dream of one day being a published author was
strongly nurtured. When that dream came true in 1995, Lucy and
her husband Peter, focused their attention on making the Lucy
Clark books the best they could be. Thus the writing team of
“Lucy Clark” was formed.
Parenthood was also
mixed with the writing schedule when their first child was born
in 1996. Less than 2 years later, their second child arrived
during a hot summer in 1998. Juggling writing with two young
children wasn't easy but eventually the family settled down into
a rhythm. Both children and their antics are often used for the
inspiration for the young characters Lucy writes into her Medical
Romance ™ stories.
Now, with both children at
school, Lucy and Peter enjoy working on their books, often
discussing their characters and the direction for the stories on
their daily walks on the old train-line which has been turned
into a walking track. Living in winery country means they can
watch the glorious colours of the vines throughout the year –
what a way to get inspired! They also enjoy spending time with
their children as well as volunteering at the school.
Over
the years, Lucy has participated in a variety of writing
conferences at both State and National levels as well as
lecturing at the Workers' Education Association on a yearly
basis. Lucy has been invited to be a guest speaker for the
Society of Women Writers; Romance Writers of Australia; South
Australian Romance Writers; South Australian Writers' Centre and
the Romance Writers of America – Australian Chapter –
to name just a few.
All of Lucy's books are registered and
a copy held with the State Library of South Australia [Mortlock
Library] and are part of the South Australiana collection. Lucy
is also in the South Australian Creative Women Writers' database,
compiled by Flinders University. Lucy has also been asked to
contribute to such educational materials as The Professional
Romance Writer's Course for
the Australian College of Journalism; The Craft of the
Modern Writer for the FabJob
Guide to Becoming a Professional
Writer, The SA Writers' Handbook published
by the South Australian Writers' Centre and Nine
Winning Habits of Successful Authors.
Lucy has done a plethora of radio and television interviews over
years but the favourite radio spot was definitely doing a
humorous Gotcha-Call on
(then) Adelaide DJ, Adam Hills – the man who did
Gotcha-Calls on
everyone else! “looks like I gotcha!”
To
date, Lucy's books have been translated into over twenty
different languages – including Icelandic, Czec
and Afrikaans and have been
read on to tape for the Hear-A-Book organisation
which provides audio novels for the visually impaired. Driving
holidays around the amazing Australian country-side provide the
back drop for most of their Medical Romances ™. Favourites
to date are the Blue Mountains in New South Wales, The Whispering
Wall in South Australia and historic Ballarat in Victoria. Living
in such a large country, there is still so much for them to
explore and write about – stay tuned.
