SUNDAY NOVEMBER 1, 2009
- Geelong's premiership win has seen the AFL reward it with
blockbuster matches for the 2010 season. The Cats have two feature Public
Holiday matches against Hawthorn on the Easter Monday and Carlton on the April
26th Holiday for Anzac Day. The Cats also have Friday night blockbusters against
Essendon, Collingwood and a Grand Final rematch in Round 13 against St.Kilda.
For some reason the AFL has scrapped the Round 1 rematch. Click

- Geelong captain Tom Harley has retired from AFL football.
The two time premiership captain resisted the urge from coach Mark Thompson
to play on next season and reach 200 games, instead he will be stuck on 198.
His leadership was one of the reasons for the turnaround by the Cats in the
past few seasons. Joining him in retirement is defender David Johnson who
was a fill in backman in the past seasons. Johnson played 8 matches this season
for a career total of 79. 29/10
- Geelong will play North Melbourne in the opening match of
the 2010 NAB Cup. The Cats are the defending Champions after defeating Collingwood
in the final this year. The match will be played at Etihad Stadium on Sunday
February 21 Starting at 4:40pm. It will be televised on Foxtel. 29/10
- Geelong has delisted 5 players including Kane Tenace as it
gets ready for the national draft. Tenace played 5 matches this season bit
his poor disposal has kept him from a regular spot in the side. Also delisted
was Adam Donahue, Dan McKenna, Scott Simpson and Bryn Weadon from the rookie
list. Jeremy Laidler, who played in the AFL this season, was promoted off
the rookie list. 14/10
- Geelong has ended trade week with picking up Marcus Drum
from Fremantle, but losing Shane Mumford to Sydney. The Cats also swapped
some draft picks. Drum will bolster the Cats defence partically with the expected
retirement of Captain Tom Harley. Mumford was lured to Sydney on the back
of a 4 year million dollar contract that the Cats could not match. The Cats
will have picks 17, 28, 40 and 42 in the National Draft. 10/10
- Brownlow Medallist Gary Ablett and All Australian Corey Enright
have tied for the 2009 Carji Greeves Medal, the first tie in the clubs history.
Jimmy Bartel was second and Selwood third. This was Enright's first Best and
Fairest award, while Ablett emulated his 2007 feat when won the award in another
premiership season. 2/10
