· Strengthen food security utilising locally grown vegetables, herbs and fruits with high nutritive value (5)

· Increase availability of medicinal plants for the treatment of common aliments (5)

· Improve organic waste management and supply organic fertiliser (5)

Major Activity Outputs, as per project design:

FORMAL TRAINING COURSES: (5)

Output:

· 42 trainers operating in their own communities able to conduct further courses of environmental garden design using Permaculture principles in small spaces.

TRAINING MATERIALS: (4)

Output:

· Production and use of training material: 3 videos (30 copies each) and 'How to do it' manual (400 copies), Two issues of Se Puede produced (Sept & Dec 98) (10,000 copies), A new publication still being edited, called ‘How to do Permaculture’.

BUILDING COMMUNITY NETWORKS: (5)

Output:

· Four community workshops were run in inner-Havana, with 20, 20, 13, and 16 participants,

· Increased knowledge & production of herbs, greens & medicinal plants in small spaces.

Indicators:

· All the courses and workshops included segments on medicinal plants, some of them taught by doctors or pharmacists specialising in medicinal plants.

Output:

· A network of diverse gardens and projects that are practical, replicable models suitable for use as training resources for other zones within these municipalities.

· A network of people with teaching and certified design skills to continue to provide support and advice and develop new initiatives in the area

COMPOSTING, WORM FARMING and WASTE DISPOSAL: (5)

Output:

· Community and household composting and worm farming to deal with organic waste

GENERAL PERFORMANCE TARGETS: (5)

Output:

· At least 50 % participation rate by women achieved.

CAPACITY BUILDING: (5)

Output:

· FNH and CBOs with increased skills in urban agriculture, community development, participatory training techniques (5 staff), project development and management (3 staff) with the capacity to run a commercial international PDC course for income generation.
