Merri Cohousing

Criteria to Qualify as a Resident

To formally qualify to be a resident of Merri Cohousing an inductee must have satisfied the following 'Resident Qualification Criteria'.

  1. Familiarity with the cohousing concept. The inductee must have read The Cohousing Handbook, and in addition:
    1. have attended an Information Seminar, OR
    2. had substantial prior experience in a cohousing group, OR
    3. be widely read in the cohousing literature and Merri Cohousing's own formal documents.
  2. Participation in Merri Cohousing. The inductee must have attended at least five Merri Cohousing events, including at least two workshops, two Committee or General meetings other than workshops, and one purely social event. If an inductee is strictly unavailable to attend workshops they may attend additional Committee meetings instead.
  3. In-Kind Contribution. The inductee must have contributed their labour to the group in some tangible way, for example:
    1. by taking minutes at a meeting or workshop;
    2. by taking part in the writing of a Discussion paper;
    3. by taking on administrative duties such as collation of documents; or
    4. by taking on the role of facilitator at a meeting or workshop.
  4. Sharing of Dreams and Desires. The inductee must have completed the Merri Cohousing Design and Location Questionnaire.
  5. Demonstrated Enthusiasm. The inductee must have demonstrated enthusiasm for the vision and goals of Merri Cohousing.
  6. Financial Membership. The inductee must complete an Application for Membership and pay the $100 full membership fee ($50 if an intending renter) to join Merri Cohousing and Ecovillage Inc.
