Present: Cathy Nixon, Jane Ward, Max Nankervis, Paul Adams, Cinnamon Evans, Paula Jorgensen, Vyv Rodnight, Maya Ward, Hans Tilstra, Grant Anthony Apologies: Hamish McCracken, Liz Denny, Peter Graham 1. Maya’s Report Introduced Hans who describes himself as the ‘webmaster’ of the cohousing Melbourne Vicnet. Hans here to offer vicnet as a medium of communication. Identified having a potential site as critical to the perceived success of this group. Hans can help in terms of internet expertise and other resources such as books etc. Hans believes that many cohousing issues can be sorted out by using the net. Apparently there is other potential sites in Nth Coburg and Whittlesea. His address: tilstra@smartchat.net.au Maya has talked with Frances Grindlay: social planner from Moreland C.C and member of Melbourne Cohousing. Will meet with Maya, Noel, Cathy on Tues to draft a letter to M.C.C. C.E.O. requesting them to purchase land. Also letter from group to her suggesting planning dept. employ her to work with group re social planning. Max suggested we look at report done by ecumenical housing in 1997/8 Maya will follow this up. Maya also meeting with Chris Clark, developer with Mirvac and member of Urban Ecology Melb and Peter Graham and Ceridwen, re offer to do development budget. They want to do this as a part of entering an International competition: Habitat. 2. Report from Process Group (Paula, Viv, Hamish) Paula and Vyv re work on group process looking at issues such as: Systems for decision making, group structure, meeting process. Suggested Decisions: - Concensus strived for, but vote of 2/3 majority used when necessary - Type of decision may dictate style of decision making Meetings: - Agenda decided at end of each meeting for the next meeting, with other business always as a final item - Facilitation rotated between those who are interested - Use timekeeper as necessary - ‘Roberts rules of Order’ - (Paula will present this concept at future meeting) - Working Groups expected to do work between meetings and report * The above suggestions for a style of working will be ratified at the next meeting. Please consider the above and advise if there is anything that doesn’t suit you. - Membership - recommended that a separate group be formed to look at this issue. Possible suggestion that there are at least 2 styles of membership - interested people and committed people who will be future residents. - Suggestion that we become incorporated - anyone who knows anything about this process please let Maya know ASAP - Jane will report to next meeting with several suggestions for financial ‘membership’ - Hans suggested that early $ commitment is useful. Early ‘commiters’ may be rewarded by having first choice of homes - Suggestion that Maya and Cathy are the keepers of the information for now - will keep track of all of the records etc - Cinnamon suggested that Fitzroy Credit Co-op be a place to open an account - Jane is investigating Co-op membership options - Paul will be following up communication issues - Hans suggested trying to get article in local paper though we decided to wait for a while to try to secure the land - Jane reported another web site address 3. Title of the Group Suggested Title: ‘Merri Cohousing’ This name will be ratified at the next meeting. Please consider Maya and Cathy to investigate setting up a dedicated email address through the CERES system Cinnamon suggested ‘egroups’ - a way of sending out successfully multiple emails (need to subscribe) Cinnamon to investigate 4. Vision Statement Paula will collate the suggestions that have come in so far and will present at the next meeting for ratification. 5. Hans did an exercise: We wrote down on strips of paper our 3 top priorities of what were important about this project. Environmental sustainability and community were favourites. Also then wrote our personal ‘tools’ or things that we could bring to the group - everything from design/planning skills to energy and enthusiasm and commitment are valued. Decided it would be great to keep adding to the ‘toolkit’ so we collect a list of skills that the group has. 6. Max presented: An inspiring slide show about cohousing projects in Denmark that he has visited. Meeting Closed |
