Beagle Club of Queensland Walks

Several times a year the Beagle Club of Queensland conducts Beagle walks for club members and Beagle enthusiasts alike. The walks have been held at Woorim Beach on Bribie Island, about 1 1/2 hours drive from Brisbane, Southport Spit on the Gold Coast, and Daisy Hill State Forest about 20 minutes south of Brisbane City and Mount Coot-tha which overlooks Brisbane. Our newest walks are through Brisbane city which included the Botanical Gardens, the Goodwill Bridge and Southbank, and the Redcliffe Peninsula Beach Walk.

Brisbane City Botanical Gardens and Southbank Walk
22nd June 2008

It was a beautiful day that welcomed all the beagles and their exhibitors to the Brisbane City walk. A little colder that what has been experienced in recent times in Brisbane but the cloudless sky and bright sunshine more than made up for this.

The walk proceeded from the base of the Kangaroo Point cliffs, just under the Captain Cook Bridge and South East Freeway. The pack consisted of a tremendous total of 43 beagles with the honorary beagles coming along for the fun. This was an excellent turnout and we had many new faces joining in on the fun as well.

The City walk is an excellent adventure for the beagles. We head out along the walkway from Kangaroo Point cliffs until we reach the Goodwill foot bridge that spans the Brisbane River. It’s a fabulous site watching the pack smell their way over the bridge before have a good look out over the river.

After the walk over the bridge we head further north through the city Botanical Gardens. It’s a delight being part of the pack as they make their way through the lush foliage the makes its way along the banks of the river. We have a short stop towards the end of the Gardens before heading back through the gardens and over the Goodwill Bridge. From there the pack turned west and headed through South Bank. To the delight of many of the onlookers the beagles made a unique site as they headed along the Clem Jones Promenade. We rested for a little while at the western end of South Bank, allowing the beagles and their owners to take in the view and to have a good chat with each other.

We returned along the promenade where many of the beagles took an exception to one of the local buskers playing the didgeridoo. I don’t think they knew how he got such a big noisy animal inside such a small log. Our final walk was back to the Kangaroo Point cliffs for a well earned morning tea and a good talk about our favourite subject. Thanks to everyone who joined in on the walk. It is always great to see the new beagles and their owners joining in with the regulars. The club appreciates your participation as it makes for an even more enjoyable time.

Southport Spit Walk, 13th April 2008

It was a picture perfect morning on the Gold Coast for the second walk for the club in 2008. The sun was out and it was a warm 24 degrees. As could be imagined on such a great day there were plenty of beagles out and about. By the start of the walk we had 35 beagles and their owners, with a couple of honorary beagles in the fun as well.

We headed down the spit from the Sand Pumping jetty. There were a number of beagles who were let off lead in the off-lead area of the beach. It was great to see that most of these were well behaved and kept within distance of their owners. Many of our members are teaching their beagles off lead skills which seems to be working well.
The temperature of the water was cool but not cold, so none of the beagles minded the swim. As it was also low tide, there was plenty of beach to explore and the water was nice and shallow

The walk took about 90 minutes with a 10 minute break just north of Main Beach. We headed back for a lovely morning tea and to draw the raffle that was generously donated by Andrew and Erin Ison from Two Small Puppies. Congratulations to Andrew who won the hamper who will now have the best dressed beagle in town.

Thanks to everyone who turned up and enjoyed the day. It was a magic day and was fabulous to see the turnout of beagles and their owners enjoying the fun.
