GCM RPG Conversion Rule Changes
for
Big Eyes, Small Mouth 2ed
The Tri Stat rule system used in the fan popular Big Eyes, Small Mouth and is designed to replicate the fast paced, not so serious , laugh a minute funny anime that has been overlooked by most companies who think anime-based means giant robots. The view of anime games mean mecha has only been re-enforced by shows like Mospeada and it's Robotech brothers, so how does the game ment to help break that trend deal with Mospeada when you need to buy a extra book to just get more than basic one page mecha construction rules?
While not as wacky as most BESM games tend to be, BESM Mospeada is fast paced and very easy to run
What you need to play:
The Big Eyes, Small Mouth rulebook is vital for character creation and the combat system and the inventive GM can get by with just that. Big Robots, Cool Starships however is required to make the best use of the mecha stats presented on this site, and Hot Rods and Gun Bunnies is needed to make good use of the ready made character templates which use the Tri Stat Skill System. Another option is to use The Dominion Tank Police RPG and Resource Book, as it has the tri stat rules along with more low powered character atributes, uses the tri stat skill system, and even has cut-down mecha creation rules, though this choice does lack some things that the BESM books have. For example the Dominion mecha construction rules are mainly geared towards lower powered ground mecha like tanks, and lacks the Transformation and merging atributes, though Dominion provides a great example of using the Tri Stat system for lower power game settings.
Note: The following is simply an adjustment of certain rules that may be found in the Big Eyes, Small Mouth 2ed rulebook. They are altered from their original form in order to provide a game closer to what we see in the series, and to take account for the various features that the Armo-Fighters have. It is recommended that you use these adjustments in order to maintain simplicity, but of course the final choice is up to you.
The World of Mospeada and how it relates to BESM
The world of Mospeada is set in the low powered end of the 'real' military mecha genre, character points for a average power level (30 points). The players travelling through the ruins of our high-tech world, a world firmly in the grasp of alien invaders and their human minions, a world which is mostly against the players in the battles against the Inbit.
While the Inbit have psychic communication and the Refles has near magical control over energy, the players have as much 'special powers' as you and me: i.e. None. But are highly skilled and using Skills is recommended. The mecha are also rather low level, certainly no Gundam/Eva style stuper powers.
Characters can come from two major groups: Mars or Earth. On Mars you have a ultra-moden high-tech world of highly trained people who are fish out of water on 'primative' Earth. Those from Earth however come from the ruins of world invaded decades ago, the chances of having major schooling is rare and high-tech equipment is hard to come if at all.
Men from Mars:
Characters from Mars Base on Mospeada Earth will be in the military. They will be highly trained in tactics and the use of mecha, but will have not seen animals, bodies of water larger than a sink or weather outside of movies and books. Many will be driven to defeat the Inbit, having lived with the military propaganda on Mars for all their life. They'll also be totally unprepared for how humans operate in the ruins of Earth and will be shocked to learn that many don't want to help fight the aliens. They'll appear and act almost like aliens compared to most humans on Earth.
Rebels on Earth:
Characters from Earth will have little in the way of military combat training, or any training for that matter. Where those from Mars Base can be spotted a mile off, Earth characters will usually fit in fairly well. With all organized resistance crushed with days of the Inbit arrival decades ago, Earth characters will usually have very different reasons from Mars characters for taking on the aliens.
New Character Defects
- Too Trusting
- The character is too trusting of a particular subject, person or group, wether through blind hope or other belief. For example Stick Bernard believes that all humans are actively against the Inbit, though he later finds out this is not the case and even the ones who say they are like Colonel Wolf might be lying.
Mecha Sub-Attributes
- Accessories (Big Robots, Cool Starships P. 26)
- Ejection seats come standard with most military craft and does not require the purchasing of this stat.
