Genesis Climber MOSPEADA: Love, Live, Alive

Mildly successful, Genesis Climber MOSPEADA ran its full run of 25 eps without cancellation. However, the show did not achieve good enough ratings to merit a sequel, it's early Sunday morning time slot proving crippling. Despite failing to turn into another Macross style success story like it's makers hoped, Mospeada had a small, but quite vocal group of hardcore fans who staged a large write in campaign to bring it back. Through their efforts, a special release for the home video market appeared in September 1985, the music video OAV, Genesis Climber Mospeada: Love, Live, Alive.

Genesis Climber MOSPEADA: Love, Live, Alive

Love, Live, Alive is both new fotage and old, part Yellow Belmont concert, part drama, and a collection of flashback scenes from the show all rolled into one. Those expecting brand new high paced mecha action will be disapointed, as it is mainly Yellow's singing that this OAV is about, with a great collection tunes from smooth pop ballads to hard rockers! He also sings all but one of the songs in his male voice, lending some interesting interpretations to the songs from Mospeada. End theme "Blue Rain In My Soul" is the exception, a duet between both sides of his persona, male and female.

The story takes place a while after the final battle of the Third Earth Recapture mission, and centers on Yellow riding to and performing one of his concerts. Through out his songs, and a interview with a news crew, he flashes back to all the adventures he had with his friends.

By the end of the program, a few loose ends left dangling from the original series are tied up and everybody gets a happy ending (a far cry from the hellish ending their Robotech counterparts Lancer and Sera get in final Robotech novel The End of the Circle) I won't tell you how or what happens to save the surprises, but he is reunited with all of his friends.

For fans of Mospeada, or even fans of Robotech, this is a fantastic collection of memories from a really fun show. Robotech fans will also be able to see a lot of things that Harmony Gold edited out of the original.
