Rations

There are really only two basic types of food rations, preserved emergency and un-preserved normal.

Un-preserved food rations
Generally cheaper and tastier, the main drawbacks of un-preserved food are it's weight and tendency to spoil quickly. One day of un-preserved rations (or meals in town) costs 20 credits. Included are 1 liter of beverage, around 1/2 kg of meat and vegetables, and a loaf of bread.
Un-preserved rations will spoil in 3 weeks, and weigh around 30lbs for 1 week (or about 4lbs a day). If bought in bulk (1 week at a time) un-preserved rations only cost 100cr a week.

Preserved Rations
Standard issue in all Mars Base emergency packs, preserved rations or MRE (Meal Ready to Eat) tend to taste much worse than their fresh counterparts and most prefer to eat fresh or so called 'real food' if possible. Upside is they won't spoil for at least 6 months unless exposed to water. Usually freeze dried, powdered, or preserved with salt. Fairly cheap compared to their un-preserved cousins, most people steer clear of them because the majority are Mars Base produced and can provide a reason to cause displeasure with the Inbit Sympathizers. Can costs anywhere between 5 - 20 credits a day, or 25 - 100 cr a week, or free if rescued from crashed Mars Base ships and mecha. Weight is less than un-preserved rations (less water is in the food) - 20lbs for a weeks worth, or about 3lbs a day. Includes servings of beef-jerky, freeze-dried and packaged soups and veggies (just add water), various gravys and sauces to help improve the flavor and 500 mls of beverage (usually orange drink, coffee or tea)
