Dumb Dating Mistakes Men Make with Women

CREATING AN AWARD WINNING PERSONAL AD:

HOW TO GET THE WOMEN MESSAGING YOU

A personal ad is sort of like a resume. It’s supposed to let the reader know who you are, emphasizing your strengths and positive attributes. Writing a personal ad, though, takes a little different approach and a little different style.

There’s A Reason It’s Called A Personal Ad

Remember the TV show Dragnet? “Just the facts, ma’am” was the show’s signature line, but with a personal ad you need to go beyond the facts and share a bit of yourself. We’re not talking mushy or sappy, just real and reflective of your personality. It’s okay to note that you have a dog, a cat and a great job, but to get the ladies to notice you it’s critical include things that communicate what you’re really like.

Know What You’re Really Looking For

Do you want to make new friends? Are you interested in just hanging out together or do you want to do an activity like golf, tennis, or visiting an art show? For your ad to be effective it must include these things. After all, how will someone know if you have common interests if you don’t talk about what those interests are?

A word of warning, though: don’t write that you’re looking to fall madly in love, get married, and have a houseful of kids. This will scare women off faster than almost anything. Even if these are long term goals of yours, they should be communicated much later in the relationship, not in your personal ad.

Choose Your Words Carefully

The words you use in a personal ad have a huge impact on how your ad is perceived. Words that are okay include:

  • Affectionate, loving or romantic
  • Educated, sophisticated, or generous
  • Great cook, down to earth, or likes to cuddle

Words that raise red flags include:

  • Well-hung or great in bed
  • Hot, nasty, or uninhibited
  • Anything that’s promiscuous or too sexual in nature

Get The Picture

“A picture paints a thousand words” is a saying that most of us have heard at some point, and it’s true. According to several online matchmaking services, posting a photo with your personal ad will increase your response rate as much as ten times. Like it or not, people will want to see what you look like when deciding whether or not to contact you. Make sure it’s a current photo that portrays your personality. Ask a friend to help you take several pictures in various locations and poses, and then choose the one that looks the best.

Don’t, repeat, don’t post a picture that’s from a long time ago or that doesn’t accurately show what you look like now. If and when you do get a chance to meet someone who responds to your ad, they will immediately notice that you look different than your picture and the date will be off to a shaky start.

Keep It Current

Once your ad is posted, tweak it occasionally to keep it fresh. If you’re not getting many responses, look around the web site and take note of ads that are catchy and interesting. Bring that sort of style to your own ad, as long as it accurately reflects your personality. By regularly refreshing your ad you continue to reveal information about yourself and make yourself more interesting to potential dates.
