The
importance of managing the OHS function in a pro-active manner -
of managers, supervisors and employees/health and safety
representatives working together (and utilising resources such as
health and safety committees) - is emphasised throughout the
course.
A
series
of Practical OHS
Problem-solving
training
courses designed to be offered to TEAMS
from participating organisations.
The course format has been used on numerous occasions over
the past few years, with a wide variety of organisations.
It has proven to be one of the most effective OHS training
formats available.
The
course uses the Identification, Assessment and
Control of Hazards
process to discuss in-house issues, including manual handling and
practical workplace design.
Course
Aims
-
develop
the in-house, OHS problem identification and solving skills
-
people
from different areas and levels in the organisation learn how
work together to tackle
- and solve - OHS problems
-
leave
organisations with some internal expertise and skills
-
develop
a clear overview of the OHS needs and requirements of their
organisation -
and their responsibilities and duties
Who
Should Attend
As
suggested by the name, these courses are designed to be presented
to teams enrolled from
the participating companies.
Each team should have as a minimum:

One
Senior Manager
(ie; Production Manager or above)
-
One
Line Manager (ie; Foreman, Supervisor, or equivalent)
-
One
Health and Safety Representative and/or Committee member (or
if none, one "shop floor" employee)
-
Organisations
unable to meet these selection criteria are advised to select
other OSHA training programs in order to better meet their
requirements.
Duration
-

range of formats are provided, depending on the needs and
priorities of the client

optimally,
this is a 3-day course

and 4-day versions are available
- Courses
consist of various modules or sections as appropriate to the
needs of the organisation, with breaks of one-two weeks in
between sections to allow participants the opportunity to
return to their workplaces and, through implementing aspects
of the course material, actually achieve change in their work
areas.
(Where
appropriate, the course facilitators/consultants will be available
for telephone or on-site assistance and advice in the period
between sessions.)
