ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

The first known Australian Rules Football card was issued as a cigarette card around the year of 1890 and was part of a black and white photo set showing many Australian celebrities. Football cards have progressed immensely in quality since then, but one thing remains common; they still depict the leading players of the era. Many different versions of the 'Footy Card' have been issued over the years, including cigarette cards, confectionery trade cards, cereal cards, gum cards and specific collectors editions.

This database is an attempt to list every Australian Rules Football card ever issued. Due to the rarity of some of the card series the job of listing every card in every set is close to impossible but at least it gives a guide as to what might be available. The database centres mainly around card series but also encompasses sticker issues, some of the more collectable poster issues and some newspaper and magazine inserts along with bottlecaps and water based transfers (Decals).

The database is designed as reference material only. It gives an indication of what is available and the availability of the card series but it is not a price guide. It is strongly suggested that you do some research on indicative card prices before you purchase.

Reference material of this size and detail needs input from many different sources to be complete and accurate. A number of collectors in Melbourne and around Australia have been very forthcoming with their time and information in the preparation of this guide. All contributors have been listed in the acknowledgements below in alphabetical order. Of course some people have been able to contribute more information than others which is much appreciated.

Information on some series is incomplete at the time of publishing and further amendments and additions are welcome.
