RTTT2008 - Raising Funds for Hope Street

Since 1995, “Ride To The Top” has been an annual 625km fund raising bicycle ride from Sydney to Mount Kosciuszko. In March 2008, the Ride To The Top of Australia will continue to raise funds for Hope Street Urban Compassion.

Hope Street

“The Cause”

HopeStreet works alongside the most marginalised people in our city, through programs aimed at empowering people toward the fullness of life for which we were all created.  A home for homeless people, a safe place for sex workers, employment training for the long-term unemployed, community development amongst public housing residents and Aboriginal people, counselling for problem gamblers, general counselling and urban education for those seeking to understand the urban environment are all linked with relevant worshipping communities.

HopeStreet is fully auspiced by the Baptist Union of NSW but totally responsible for raising income from it's own projects.  HopeStreet is registered as a Tax Deductible Gift Recipient.

“The Ride”

A dozen riders will leave Sydney on Saturday, 8th March 2008, and cycle south along the country roads, with nightly stops at Bowral, Goulburn, Canberra, Cooma and Jindabyne. On Thursday, 15th March, it will be a hard slog up through the national park and ski-fields to Charlotte Pass, which is the highest point reachable on a road-going bicycle. The next day will be hiking to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko and across to Thredbo.

The ride is entirely self-funded by the dozen riders and support staff, with accomodation in church halls and lodges.

“Making Donations”

For 2008, raising funds for Hope Street Urban Compassion is the main reason behind Ride To The Top. Colleagues, friends and family can pledge a tax-deductible donation, directly with the Ride To The Top riders.

All money donated to the ride will go directly to Hope Street Urban Compassion projects in inner-city Sydney.

Alternatively, Hope Street have their ongoing donation facilites, on (02) 9358 2388, or their website. (Their website contains a lot of interesting information about the people, their plight and the help that is available to them.) Give it a try on : www.hopestreet.org.au
