AMC
Gremlin (1970~1976)
American Motors (AMC) was formed in May 1954 by a merger of the 2 smaller American car makers Nash-Kelvinator and Hudson Motors. Chrysler bought AMC for US$1.1 billion in 1987.
The Gremlin was a 2-door sub-compact hatch-back built by AMC from 1970-1976 and was available with a choice of four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines. In 1977, the six-cylinder model was discontinued and for the 1977 and 1978 model years the "Custom" model was introduced and was fitted with a four-cylinder engine sourced from Audi in Germany. A total of 13,907 Gremlins were built using the four-cylinder Audi engine. The same engine block was used for the Audi 100, Porsche 924 and VW LT31 van.
