FREDERICK WILLIAMS

Frederick WILLIAMS and Elizabeth Paton HUGHES are my 3rd Great Grandparents.

Their daughter, Susannah Maria WILLIAMS is my 2nd Great Grandmother who married Richard James FAWCETT.

Elizabeth Paton HUGHES was born in Australia.

WILLIAMS: Recorded in various spellings including William, Williams, and Williamson, this is a surname which can be of English, Scottish, Irish, and Welsh origins. Wherever found it is ultimately Germanic, and was introduced into England and Scotland around the time of the Norman Conquest of 1066. Carried by four English kings, it derives from the personal name "Wilhelm" composed of the elements "wil", meaning "of strong mind", and "helm", translating literally as helmet, but in this context meaning "protection". As a patronymic the short form of "s", meaning "son of", is often added, although the name is popular particularly in Scotland in its long style of Williamson.

Frederick Williams

St Alphage Church, Greenwich, Kent, England

Frederick WILLIAMS was baptised 7th Aug 1821 at St Alphage Parish, Greenwich, Kent, England. His mother is Mary WILLIAMS - father unknown, and he has a sister, Jane WILLIAMS who was baptised on the same day as Frederick. [source: English baptism record & IGI record]
Frederick came to Australia around 1929 (as his Death Certificate in 1876 advises that he was in the NSW Colony for 47years). He would've most likely been a child as he was baptised in 1821. No shipping record found as yet.

Frederick WILLIAMS was a publican of The Crown at Anvil Creek, NSW in 1848. The Inn was situated half way on the road from Singleton to Maitland. It contained eleven rooms and four acres of gardens. A paddock of 20 acres with a never failing supply of water was also part of the property. Frederick Williams remained at the Inn for three years. During this time he began a business partnership with coach owner Samuel Smith. Together they took out a license for the 'Sociable' carriage which ran between Morpeth and Singleton. Frederick later moved to Singleton where he returned to his former occupation of butcher. He also became a storekeeper. (Source: http://jenwilletts.com)
