Heroic Field Theory


We have all noticed that in movies, tv shows and such, the hero can regularly walk through a field of explosions with bad guys shooting at him and not get hit, while most of the small insignificant characters can't go less than a minute without attracting large amounts of fatal fire. These anomalies can be explained by the presence of heroic fields that are possesed by all characters.

The nature of the field is determined by the square of the characters heron (pronunced here-on) number, h. For good characters, the heron number is positive, but for evil characters it is negative. The heron number depends on several factors, the most important being the characters goodness coefficent, g, and the characters significance value, s. The goodness coefficent is a factor which refelcts whether the character is good or evil. For good characters, g is equal to 1, while for evil characters g equals -0.75. The reason for the difference in the absolute value of the goodness coefficent for good and evil characters will be explained later. The significance value of the character reflects how important the character is. The main hero has a large significance value, while sub-assistant henchman number 43 has a low significance value.

The shape of each characters depends on the square of the characters heron number. This reflects the fact that evil characters with heron numbers well below zero are just as difficult to kill off as the good characters with high heron numbers.
For characters with a low value of h squared, the shape of their heroic field is an inwards spiral, as shown in figure 1a. Characters who have a field of this type include the nameless red shirt ensigns from star trek, and the cannon fodder in the bad guys army. This field is called a type M field.

For characters with an intermediate value of h squared have a complicated heroic field, as shown in figure 1b. This field is an inwards spiral close to the character, but further away becomes an outwards spiral. Most side kicks have fields of this type, as do trusted henchmen. This field is called a type S field.

Characters with large values of h squared have a field which is shaped like a set of concentric circles, like those shown in figure 1c. Heroic fields of this type are generated by the main bed guy and the hero. This field is called a type H field.

The heroic field exerts a force on objects parallel to the field lines, if dangeron particles exist within the object. Dangeron particles are created by objects experiencing large forces or temperatures. As such, objects like bullets, arrows, shrapnel from explosions and so forth all posses dangerons. Dangeron particles have a limited lifetime, and generally decay away once the object they are in has come to rest. Also, when within a metal objects, the lifetime of the dangeron is increased.

From this we can predict some of the behaviours that are observed. The heroic field of a character who has a low value of h squared will attract objects containing dangerons towards the character, thus make it inevitable that they will be hit by the first projectile that heads their way.

The complicated structure of the intermediate h squared shows several different behaviours. Most dangeron containing objets are deflected away by the outward spiral. However, if an object gets within the transition circle, it will then be attracted to the character, making it possible for characters such as sidekicks and trusted henchmen to be hit.

Fields generated by characters with large values of h squared deflect all dangeron possesing objects away from the character, making it all but impossible to hit them.

This alone does not explain all that happens. The hero is often shot by the villian, and vice versa. Also, it is occasionally possibly for a cannon fodder to run the gauntlet and not be hit. These events can be explained by the presence of suspenson fields. These fields interact with each persons heroic field, and alters it's structure. The structure of the suspenson field determines the ctitcal values of h squared, the values where a M type field changes to a S type field, and where the S type field changes to a H type field.

As the suspenson field varies with time, the the type of each characters heroic field can vary. An appropriate form of the suspenson field can change the heroic field of a major villian who normally has a type H field into a type M field, making it easy for the hero to kill him, or can change a fresh recruits M type field into a H type field, allowing him to run through a barrage of fire and save the hero from immenent doom.
