An epic haiku
This is an epic haiku composed by Kevin Brake and Matthew Madigan, for an Error bar on communicating science run by PAIN, the University of Quuensland Physics Student Society. For the premier performance, the work was read by the composers, and the reading was acompanied by interprative dance by Justin Yee.
Reletivity
Space and time are one
Mercury's orbit is bent
Relativity
Newton has a form
Of the relativity
But it fell well short
Of describing all
Things in nature that we see
Space it did not change
Light it did travel
Through a "made up" medium
Which was called "Ether"
Michaelson-Morley
Tried to measure the speed of
Light in the Ether
They found that the light
Had the same velocity
In all directions
This caused Einstein to
Develop a new theory
To explain all this
He postulated
The speed of light was constant
For all observers
Regardless of their
Motion throughout all of space
Where ever they are
The faster they go
The slower time progresses
And they start to shrink
No-one believed him
They all trusted Newton's laws
And absolute space
But Einstein's new laws
Explained Michaelson-Morley
And a bunch of stuff
A few years later
Looking at a falling lift
Al had a new thought
Gravity's the same
As accelerating in
The opposite way
Al used his theory
On the motion of Mercury
And found it don't fit
During an eclipse
Astronomers looked at it
And saw Al was right
That did it for Al
Everyone agreed with him
He got a nobel
