The rate of carbohydrate breaking down into the blood stream is extremely important in fat burning diet, because that would determine the amount of insulin (fat storage hormone) to be produced by the pancreas. Insulin is the body fat storage hormone. It is produced by the pancreas in response to increase blood sugar level. This would in turn drive your body to consume glucose for energy, and store any excess away as fat. The most important concept in dieting is a balance of fat burning protein hormones glucagon and insulin is the key factor in here to determine between fat burning or fat storage. If you have: Higher level of glucagon ----> Burning body fat Higher level of insulin ----> storing as body fat Glucagon is considered as the fat burning hormone. It is produced by the pancreas in response to break down protein. It's main job is to maintain stable blood sugar level in your body by releasing stored body fat so it can be burned for energy. Glucagon is released by eating proteins while insulin is released by eating carbohydrates or too much calories has been consumed. But neither of these hormones is released when low GI carbohydrate are eaten. One other important factor which monitor the rate of carbohydrates break down and get into the blood stream is the amount of fiber content with the carbohydrate food. A fresh orange with it's natural fiber is much better than drinking just the orange juice.
