"The Juke"
A while ago I had a sketch for a
retro looking sort of speaker. I eventually decided to
build it.
The search for something
interesting in the way of drivers lead me to the Vifa MG18SK with its
yellow fibreglass cone. I already had a pair of Seas 27TDFC's on
the shelf, so that was the obvious tweeter to use. For bass
drivers, I agonised over the Jaycar Response10" or 8". I have
used these as bass drivers in several speakers and for bass, they
really do a very nice job. Eventually after several sketches and
discussions at SpeakChat, I went with dual 8" bass units.
Again, the Open Back midrange
configuration was used, with natural crossover points of around 180
and 2200 being used. I say natural, because there is no dsp
forcing of the mids to make them go any lower. A
3-way
linked series 1st order cross-over was again used.
The resulting speaker is again
a beautiful speaker to listen to music through, but really needs a
big room if you want to turn up the volume.
