"Harmony Askew"

I was given a pair of Yamaha tweeters from the NS-65 model. Since they had a low Fs of 500Hz, and a magnet the size of a decent 5" woofer, I decided I could mate them with an 8" Jaycar carbon.  The Jaycar carbon 8" has a nice smooth roll-off so was quite usable with the series x-o designs I prefer to use. X-o is around the 2k mark

The actual design and name happened while talking on chat with Dave Burke, the guy whose kids built my Tapered Pipes, as shown Parts Express Showcase. I was trying to come up with something different,  he mentioned Picasso, and the design sorta grew from there.

The Yamaha tweeters needed some surgery first, because the front mounted braids had corroded. The braids were replaced using wire from the inside of an old tone arm because that wire was very lightweight and flexible, a very fiddly job !

The cabinet itself contains many strange angles, they are not the same cross-section from front to back.  The main structure is braced 18mm mdf with a "Western Red Cedar" veneer, finished with Danish oil.

The front baffle is separate 1" mdf, screwed on from behind, with a layer of closed cell foam between.  That way if the tweeters fail, the baffle can be removed and new ones cut to accommodate a different tweeter.

The stand is also 1" mdf with oiled western red cedar veneer.
