"Windswept"

Inspiration: A windswept Snow Gum

"Windswept" was always intended to be a one-off design. (No-one in their right mind would make more!!)

The aim was to create a dual Tapered Quarterwave Pipe, with the 2 pipes being different lengths and being able to be padded to tune them and thus even out the theoretical peaks and troughs in the bass frequencies. How to do this was a problem until browsing through a calendar; and there it was, a beautiful windswept snow gum !!!

The construction procedure was to build the inner partition between the front and back, install the top wadding and then laminate 4 successive layers of 3mm MDF onto the sides.

Needless to say, this was a mammoth undertaking. Each layer had to be pinned to the front and back with 1" flathead nails at 2" intervals, and a huge amount of PVA glue was used, between each layer. This produces a very resonance free cabinet.

The Drivers used are a Vifa P21WO-20-08 + Seas 27TFFC tweeter, crossed at 2200Hz with a series cross-over.
