Second Order Series Crossovers.
C: "Trinity": and
example of an AR 2nd order Series CrossOver
The Vifa XT25 tweeter,
while a very nice and transparent tweeter, is known to have
issues if getting any significant power around its resonant
point.
This problem
is often solve using an LCR combination, either in parallel
or series, or just by crossing higher than maybe one would
like.
The following
cross-over was designed for the "Trinity" speaker, which is an MTM tower using the Peerless 850467 x 2 + Vifa XT25. It
uses the AR style of x-o to avoid the tweeter resonance
problem.
To avoid
the low impedance of the Peerless in parallel, the woofers
are wired in series. The resulting impedance curve
is basically flat apart from the woofer resonance, and
between 5 and 8 ohms, all the way to over 20kHz.
