Ken Ahern's "the beginners" explanation of series x-os

I have included this as a 'cute' guide to understanding series cross-overs. Thanks Ken, for the insight !! :-)) AG

It is a direct quote from an article on one of the forums.

"If I understand Ken's explanation of a two-way series x-or, I picture a path that splits into two paths for a ways then comes back together. On the left path there is a tweeter, then a woofer and on the right path there is an inductor then a cap. Midway (between the tweet and woofer, and the inductor and the tweeter) there is a cut across path which connects the two paths.

So as I continue my silly analogy, two groups of frequencies are coming down the path and come to the split. The high freqs look at the inductor to the right and say, "That doesn't look good!" so they head of to the left and the tweeter. Of course the low freqs (who have no resistance to inductors) reach the opposite conclusion and head to the right. When the low freqs get past the inductor, they see the cap up ahead and decide to take the cut across to the left path and face the woofer that goes with it. Meanwhile, the high freqs have just gotten past the tweeter and are quite relieved to take the cut across to the cap which offers them little resistance. So the cut across has allowed the both groups to switch the path they're on. Of course both groups get back together on the other side and share a keg (except The Beginner who doesn't drink) and horrendous war stories (Dan - horrendous spelling?). "..
