Appearance: Ray is 6'4" tall and weighs 240lbs (110 kg). He is a solidly-built and muscular human male, twenty-four years old.
Background: Rayner's parents were of a gentry family, but his father died when they were young and his widowed mother took him and his older brother Pataeus to live in the city of Killay. Pataeus left for the capital, Andremar, to become a knight. However, when Ray was old enough to take up arms, his mother was too poor to send him south. Ray stayed in Killay, becoming a local street tough.
After his mother's death, Ray started working as a bouncer for Adrestus Kader, a local underworld figure who owned a brothel and a gambling den. Eventually, he had to leave Killay to find work elsewhere, though he and Adrestus shared some intimate moments before his rapid exit from the city. In time, Ray made his way to the twin cities of Sturemar and Andremar, the capital, and was reunited with his brother, now Sir Pataeus, only a few days before the Crown of the Kingdom was stolen.
Pataeus and the priestess Varinia were entrusted with the responsibility of finding the crown by the Prince, and they travelled with three others, including Ray and the pixie, Pippin. After sailing to Killay and rescuing Adrestus from prison, the group found the Crown, almost lost it to a sorcerer who had bewitched Pippin and who died as a result of Ray's quick thinking and improvisation, and travelled back south through the city of Plinth and along the Inner Sea.
As the group approached the Elven lands of Durere and Laralaade, they learned that the Prince had overthrown the Queen and was claiming that they had stolen the Crown to undermine his rule. Knowing this to be false, the group joined the revolt being led by the Elves, giving the Crown to an Elven leader who thus became the true King. To avoid a pitched battle and the loss of life that would cause, the group infiltrated the Prince's encampment and killed him and his advisor in a desperate attack while the Elves raided the perimeter. With war averted, the Kingdom of the Florent Isles returned to peace with a new, Elven royal family.
Roleplaying Notes: Ray is brave, loyal, reliable and considerate; a good friend to have by your side in a tight spot. Down to earth and unpretentious, whether or not there's an attractive woman present determines whether Ray's language is colourful or charming. He doesn't like hurting people badly, and tries to avoid fighting whenever possible, but won't back away from making difficult but necessary decisions. He finds magic unsettling and prefers to avoid it whenever possible, relying instead on physical solutions to problems.
