Sessions 6 to 10 - Norista to Thronalun

This chronology of events is written from Sheyana's perspective. It is not an exhaustive account of the entire group's actions, or even of all Sheyana's activities: however, it covers the key events of the campaign, and should provide a skeleton around which individual players can build more detailed and personalised notes.

The session column indicates session number, the players attending (by initial of first name), the date on which we played and the XP awarded. The date column indicates the game date using the Amaran (human) calendar. The events column summarises important occurrences on that date.

Thursday 4/12/L3 Guildleader Kelittin Taramarias responds with an invitation to have dinner with him tomorrow evening.
Friday 5/12/L3 Cora and Thorgan's Sunday-best outfits are finished; Cora's colourful outfit prompts an old Elf to harangue the envoys as they leave the Bishop's Residence for dinner with Guildleader Kelittin; Guildleader Kelittin gives them all gifts of wooden items he has carved, and offers to host a formal dinner for them the next time they are in Norista.
Saturday 6/12/L3 Nytheri responds that she is willing to meet at their earliest convenience; Sheyana suggests they meet after the church service tomorrow morning, and Elindyll writes to Nytheri with this suggestion.
Sunday 7/12/L3 All the envoys except Thorgan go to the church service, and meet Nytheri after the service concludes; the group returns to the Bishop's Residence to discuss her personal situation; Elindyll is quite taken with her, and reveals previously unrevealed skills as a calligrapher before he writes a letter to Nytheri's father advising him that, having met Councillor Etarial Calossarian earlier in the week, they would like to meet him at his earliest convenience; Cora and Sheyana tease Elindyll once Nytheri has left.

Sunday 7/12/L3 Rasmol and Thorgan spend the afternoon and evening drinking.
Monday 8/12/L3 Elindyll picks up his set of ear decorations.
Tuesday 9/12/L3 Nytheri's father responds in writing and advises that he is willing to meet with them at his home because we met the Councillor a week ago; Elindyll writes a letter accepting his offer and advising that they will visit on Thursday afternoon as they intend to leave in the near future.
Wednesday 10/12/L3 Sheyana collects money to replenish the group's supply of parchment.
Thursday 11/12/L3

The envoys visit Urniss, Nytheri's father, and persuade him to allow her to go to Laria (Lariatanyi in Elvish) if there is a convoy organised and led by respectable and responsible traders from Norista; afterwards, the envoys agree that they will approach Guildleader Kelittin Taramarias for a reference to the Guildleader of the Trader's Guild and will escort the convoy to Laria when it eventually leaves; while they discuss their possible courses of action, Elindyll becomes upset because Sheyana does not pronounce Lariatanyi correctly and does not use that name for Laria all the time; he and Thorgan leave to go drinking after Sheyana refuses to use Lariatanyi all the time, only when she is talking with an older elf who remembers when Laria was part of Carialathiara; the other three agree to send a letter to Guildleader Kelittin written in Common using "the human style" (Sheyana writes the text with suggestions from Rasmol and Cora, who paints the borders and adds rainbows in the margins); a sober Thorgan returns with a drunk Elindyll after only a little time; Elindyll reveals that he's a "three-pot screamer", complains that no-one listens to him, and goes to bed; Thorgan goes out to drink by himself while the other three go to the hospice and offer their services, as they expect to spend at least another week in Norista.

Friday 12/12/L3 Elindyll does not join the others at breakfast; Thorgan goes out to explore Norista and see the sights while the other three return to the hospice and help for the day; Guildleader Kelittin responds in writing with thanks for the letter written in "the human style", and promises to try and organise an informal meeting between himself, Guildleader Rakaldale Meliamne ("Oaken Heel") of the Trader's Guild, and the envoys for next Monday; that evening at dinner, Thorgan agrees to take the others through Norista the next day to show them the sights, but Elindyll isn't interested; when asked if they should contact his father about lending his support to the proposed convoy, Elindyll advises that he has "already dealt with it".

Friday 12/12/L3 Elindyll plays tag with Sheyana again while she is training with Thorgan; Sheyana and Thorgan strike him with their staves, though Thorgan does so because he believes a stick thrown past him by Cora was actually thrown by Elindyll; Sheyana heals Elindyll after everyone calms down.
Saturday 13/12/L3 Elindyll receives a letter from Nytheri; the envoys spend the day exploring Norista together and see the sights; Cora tries to talk with trees; on their return, they receive a letter from Guildleader Kelittin written in Common and Elvish confirming that he has arranged an informal meeting with Guildleader Rakaldale on Monday; Elindyll and Rasmol write a letter of thanks to Guildleader Kelittin.
Sunday 14/12/L3 Cora, Elindyll and Sheyana go to the church service and also discuss their religious beliefs.
Monday 15/12/L3 The envoys meet Guildleader Rakaldale and Guildleader Kelittin at a furniture warehouse and discuss the possibility of organising respectable and reputable traders to go to Laria so that Nytheri can trade with the humans in Amara; Guildleader Rakaldale tells them that a jeweller, Tiovan Nailo, has already left for Lariatanyi; she agrees to help encourage traders to participate in a caravan that would leave in at least two months time, and identifies potentially interested parties to Elindyll.
Tuesday 16/12/L3 to Saturday 20/12/L3 Elindyll meets with several traders and crafters to build up interest and enthusiasm in the proposed trade caravan to Laria; Cora, Rasmol and Sheyana help at the hospice each day, but Thorgan is busy and cannot join them; The envoys tentatively plan to travel southwest to Wideneld in the Crescent Range and help a cartographer map newly-explored territories, then travel north to Esserpolal and try to find whatever is making the road between Esserpolal and Llaromath unsafe, then travel downstream along the Silverfern from Llaromath to Norista and join the caravan before it departs for Laria in approximately two months time, should the preparations go well in their absence.

Saturday 20/12/L3 Bishop Honbel Kuthamion speaks with the envoys before they leave and explains that the elves at Wideneld have uncovered new caves in their mining for the first time in many years, but are unwilling to explore them because of noises and have asked for help, so the envoys are to assist the cartographer, Lorumon Julatamne ("Spring Heel" or "Light Foot") explore the caves; she also gives the envoys a letter of introduction at Sheyana's request and several other letters for them to deliver along the way; Sheyana is surprised to learn that the elves of the Crescent Range are not like other elves, having brown eyes and living underground; after the bishop leaves, Thorgan explains that those elves are a different race to the green-eyed surface-dwelling elves, and were neutral in the last war between Amara and Carialathiara; Sheyana suggests the envoys go out for a drink together to celebrate their last night in Norista; while out, Rasmol is asked to dance by a young female elf, and Thorgan dances with Cora; an incident occurs (Thorgan claims he was tripped, Cora claims he stumbled over his own feet) while they dance, and one of the elves mocks Thorgan, who shoves him in the back in return; they argue, and the elf insults Cora for her choice in consort, before he and Thorgan agree to have a duel to first blood; they go outside, and because Thorgan has no sword they fight with their fists; the elf draws first blood, and Thorgan strikes him after the elf thinks the duel has ended, bringing more shame on himself in the elf's eyes; the envoys leave in an unhappy mood, with Thorgan insisting that the entire situation was the elf's fault, and that he had no part to play in any of it; Cora sits outside Thorgan's room all night, stopping him going back out to continue drinking after the others have gone to bed.
Sunday 21/12/L3 Cora and Sheyana go to church while the others sleep and pack; the envoys leave Norista in the middle of the day for the road southwest to Belvelhon; they pass an elven bard travelling in the same direction with a heavy pack, and Sheyana persuades him to travel with them instead of by himself; the bard's name is Gokbel Liasiann ("Silver River"), and his instrument is the harp; Gokbel is travelling to Daranim via Belvelhon to see his family for the Springtide festivals in one week; the six of them camp that night by the road, and Cora and Thorgan teach Gokbel some of the songs they know.
Monday 22/12/L3 The six travel along the road; they camp that night by the road, and Gokbel plays for the envoys and teaches them some of his songs.
Tuesday 23/12/L3 The six travel along the road; they reach the village of Thronalun by midmorning, where Kalia Veliosdyns ("Winter Leaf"), the village healer, stops Cora because of her holy symbol; distressed, she explains that one of the men of the village, Ralane, was killed overnight in the grove where the dead are buried, and asks if Cora can help; the envoys and Gokbel go to the healer's house, where they examine Ralane's body, which has been savaged by claws and partially eaten; concerned that the killer may be an undead monster, Cora and Sheyana visit the grieving family; after praying with them for over an hour, they talk with Ralane's parents, who tell them to do what they think is best and spare them the details, and advise that Ralane's friends are out tracking the creature down; Sharra is identified as the person leading this expedition.

Tuesday 23/12/L3 Elindyll stays with Kalia while the other five go to the cemetery grove and Sheyana walks the grounds looking for evil; they find disturbed burial plots at the base of several family trees and meet Sharra's group, which leads them to another disturbed burial plot where Sheyana senses evil; after they prepare to battle whatever may emerge, Thorgan uses his shield as a make-shift shovel, driving two undead creatures from the ground; Cora drives them back by invoking the power of Fharlanghn, and the rest of the group cuts them down, then makes contact with Meltor's group; after decapitating the two corpses, some of the elves take the bodies back to Thronalun while Meltor leads the others to yet another disturbed plot, where Sheyana senses a greater evil; once again, Thorgan disturbs the undead creature's resting-place and it emerges to give battle; although Cora is not able to drive it back by invoking the power of Fharlanghn, the others cut the creature down and decapitate it; the group returns to Thronalun with the third corpse, where one of the villagers recognises the body as her mother; while Sheyana organises for the corpses to be cremated before the sun sets, Rasmol talks to the villager about her mother, learning that she was a widow who was in mourning for several decades, then suddenly regained her good cheer and left for Llaromath about five years ago; Sheyana and Cora prepare Ralane's body for burial, then Thorgan decapitates the head so he can't rise as an undead monster that night; Rasmol brings the villager to the cremation pyre, where she recognises a ring on the corpse that had been the most powerful of the undead creatures as her mother's; Thorgan persuades Sheyana to keep the ring so that they can show it to people in Llaromath when they try to work out what happened to the poor woman; the three corpses are cremated on the western edge of Thronalun as the sun sets.
