What does a Marriage Celebrant do?
As well as attending to legal obligations and conducting the actual wedding celebrants can assist in personalizing the ceremony to your wishes, suggesting meaningful arrangements and providing some good realtionship principles.
What are the legal obligations?
You must be 18 years of age or over (unless special consent is given).
You must hand the Notice of Intended Marriage form at least one month in advance of the ceremony to your celebrant. On the day of your marriage you must have two witnesses over the age of 18. Documents required for sighting by the celebrant-
Birth certificates or, if unobtainable, overseas passport issued by country of birth. Otherwise a statutory declaration may be required. Other documents may be required to be sighted in special cases.
What are the first steps?
Contact our office to make an appointment no less than one calendar month prior to your planned wedding day. Complete the "Notice of Intended Marriage" and be ready to discuss your wedding ceremony requirements.
