The Beagle Diary
A
fascinating (perhaps) insight into Streamer's life with and without Mistress
Hellen. The diary is updated frequently.
MAY and JUNE 2004
Saturday 5 June 2004
Big social day. Visited zeRellies in the middle of the day and upon our return, after
just a few minutes, Matthew and Dianna turned up. We don't often see them, normally
communicating via email to stay in touch. It was a very enjoyable visit.
Colin and Jenni had been invited to dinner but Matthew and Dianna couldn't stay and join
in the festivities. After dinner we eventually watched....'Wallace and
Gromit'!!! What a great way to round off a wonderfully social day!
Thursday 3 June 2004
I have finally finished the CD copies of some of my 'Tuxedo Junction' shows for our friend
Pete, who lives in Illinois. Off to the post office - I wait outside while Mistress
Hellen does the posting side of things. She emerged from the post office some time later
saying that she almost had to give fingerprints in order to post the package
overseas. I guess that's the result of our modern problem with not-so-nice people doing
not-so-nice things via the postal service.
Another huge walk today, but huge walks are becoming quite our way of life now.
The rest of May 2004
The rest of May 2004 just slipped away in a haze of not wanting to do Beagle Diary.
It was of course filled with the usual activites - walking, eating, napping, barking at
the pigeons who still haven't managed to find a new home.
Wednesday 26 May 2004
Always amazed at how much garbage there is scattered along the footpath and roads when
Mistress Hellen and I take our non-park walks.
Yippee, it was raining last night!!!!!
Monday 24 May 2004
Wonderful time in the park today - everyone who was ANYONE was there. Finally learned
the name and breed of my never-stopping acquaintence - Dakota - and he's a Brown
Doberman, although he didn't tell me - Mistress Hellen asked his humans.
The pigeons continue to hang around, just sitting on the roof waiting (apparently) for their
roosting place to return. I decide to leave them to it, especially since it's raining
and I have better things to do than sit and watch them sitting and watching.
Saturday 22 May 2004
Michael visits in the evening and as arranged, I show him how his website is constructed
and get him to do the updating he required. I also show him how to upload the updated
pages. He's very impressed with my teaching skills but I fear there aren't many
openings for Beagles to conduct website building classes.
I suggested to Mistress Hellen that maybe I should go out to work (as a teacher) and she
could stay at home and watch the world from all the Command and Observation Posts. She
thought it was an excellent idea and also suggested she could hide my socks, leave hair
everywhere for me to clean up and generally get in the way. She was also looking
forward to dragging her food over the kitchen floor, sneezing in my face, slobbering on my
favourite clothes and having people tell her she was cute and wonderful while patting her
head and rubbing her ears.
Hmm, I get the drift - maybe I'll just continue in my role, and she in hers. I'd miss
the pats and ear rubs.
Wednesday 19 May 2004
Another huge walk today - we're walking longer and longer each day. I'm still noticing
hubcaps everywhere. Now that we sometimes walk along main roads, I'm also noticing how
much rubbish there is lying around - people are so messy! Although some of it is rather
interesting to sniff, and occasionally nibble - but that normally invites trouble from
Mistress Hellen. She just forgets that deep inside, I really AM a DOG!!!
Tuesday 18 May 2004
Yesterday afternoon we went to Colin and Jenni's. In the evening we had a huge and
wonderful dinner to celebrate Colin's birthday. Shadow told me that life with a cat is
coming along OK now and even the guinea pig is being more civilised and hasn't bitten him
for weeks now.
Monday 17 May 2004
Watched the pigeons being somewhat confused today - still. You'd think after 48 hours
of their roosting place being missing that they would realise their eyes were not deceiving
them. Two pigeons were sitting on the guttering, looking down, then at each other,
then down and around and down again...if I hadn't seen it with my own reliable eyes, I would
say that someone was making up the story for fun.
I tried telling them that they had to find some other household to annoy with their nesting,
fighting, crashing and bashing about at stupid times of the night, launching into flight at
the approach of visitors and frightening the daylights out of them, loud cooing, copious
pooing and general messiness, but they just flew away.
Mistress Hellen came out and said that it might
be smart to realise that pigeons understand neither Human OR Beagle and it might be even
smarter to realise I'd been talking, no, shouting in Human in the front yard - something
that I'm really not supposed to do. Oh Dear - I just forgot where I was in my
efforts to educate the winged ones.
Saturday 15 May 2004
AAArrgh! I keep forgetting to do the playlist update! I'm not used to it being
in my weekly routine after not doing it for a few months.
Had a great romp in the local park. Met Buster the Weimaraner who was with his human and
another huge hound who was out roaming alone. He told me that his humans had gone out
for the day so he thought he would too! I hope he managed to get back into his yard in
time and didn't get into trouble for being out alone.
Later in the day we had some maintenance work on the house, including some work on the front
porch - and guess what pops out of the woodwork? Of COURSE - a HUGE huntsman!!
Mistress Hellen rescued it and put it away from the house. I think it may have been
Spot, our original huntsman visitor, due to how big he/she was.
Friday 14 May 2004
Out and about today to the aquarium, for food and for medicine for Sick Fish, who is now
residing in a small tank (The Hospital Tank). I've spent quite a bit of time watching
him since he's been in that tank. He can see his friend in the next tank, and of course
she can see him - so they both spend time with their noses against the glass, probably trying
to figure out why they just can't get near each other.
Anyways, Robbie at Aquarium Strathfield was very pleased to see us, even though I don't go
inside the shop - wouldn't want to start a trend of everyone bringing their favourite hounds
down to see the fishies.
Had a huge walk around the South Strathfield area before we visited the shop - the Cooks
River canal proved to be most interesting, with lots of smells, wildlife and people
on bicycles.
Thursday 13 May 2004
There's a lot of sticks in the yard at present, so I collected them up and then Mistress
Hellen came out and hurled them around for me. Loads of fun!
It's been commented that I don't seem as dog like as the average beagle - well do you
think I'm going to fill up the diary with comments such as "in trouble again
for.....". Well, OK, just this once - In trouble again for chasing and barking at the
pointy headed, squeaky winged doves....but, but...THEY like it...well, maybe not.
Later I watched Mister John do more painting. Again, I stationed myself for the
collecting of pats and ear rubs from passing people, and to catch up with my doggie friends.
Wednesday 12 May 2004
Cataloged some of my own CDs today - getting them off the desk and into the
shelves. Made a big difference getting the desk clear again.
Later I watched Mister John from next door do some painting. Stationed myself so I
could collect pats and ear rubs from people passing the house.
Tuesday 11 May 2004
The fireworks fairies were at it again in the early hours of this morning. It seems
beyond them to just enjoy the QUIET fireworks....so I barked a bit, just for the fun of it.
Talking about brain cells (yesterday), I thought some of mine would explode today while
cataloging the new CDs for the Music Library. There's just SO MUCH great music in
the world and some of the best was right here today. I get so excited when I hear
this music, sometimes I just get up from the computer and dance around and bark and
generally go bananas.
Monday 10 May 2004
Have you noticed just how many hubcaps there are lying around the streets? It's never
registered in my brain, but since Friday's episode, it seems that hubcaps are up there with
'well known brand' drink containers and food wrappers as the eyesore of the metropolitan
area.
Off in the evening for a visit with Dilys and Chelsea. The humans were off doing more
clanking and muttering about the computer so Chelsea and I romped in the yard and did our
usual behaving like we had no brain cells between us.
Friday 7 May 2004
New tyres on the car today! On the way home, as we were going round a big corner in
traffic - we slowed and Mistress Hellen said "Hear that? It's the sound of a hubcap venturing
forth without a car...and you know what?...I think it's one of ours". And by gum, she was
RIGHT!!!
By the time we circled round and found somewhere to pull over and retrieved the hubcap its little
clips were mashed beyond use. Oh Dear.
Over to zeRellies for a spot of dinner. YUM! Later on I decided it was high time
that I started publishing playlists again for 'Streamer Never Sleeps'. They'd been
abandoned while I was doing 'Tuxedo Junction' because I just didn't seem to have the time
to do the updating.
Wednesday 5 May 2004
I was out in the park today - OUR park - or that's how I think on it. I realised that
I never comment very often on being out and about in this park. It's so much a part of
my life that it never occurs to me to tell people about it over and over. Anyways, I
saw my friend...at least I think he could be a friend if he stopped long enough to
chat. He's always so excited and running around, usually after a tennis ball that
his humans hurl for him - but he always yells something like "great day" or "yippee" or
"hi beags".
His humans usually exchange hellos with Mistress Hellen - and from careful eavesdropping I've
learnt that my excited doggie acquaintance just LOVES being in the park and doesn't stop for
anything during his entire visit.
The park has just about everything that any canine could want - a creek, large expanses of
grass, bushes, wildlife, great smells, other doggie friends! Life is GOOD!!!
Tuesday 4 May 2004
What a surprise!...I had a new entry in my Guestbook today - from someone in Nigeria. Funny about that eh? After all, the link to the Guestbook has been gone from this site for oh..let
me think - some months now. I suppose all the other people with Guestbook Central guestbooks
have had a new entry from Nigeria too.
I noticed today that a horizontal scroll bar has made itself at home on my site. This
is rather distressing to a beagle who prides herself in observing the Laws of Good Website
Construction.
The mystery of the new arrival deepened after some testing revealed it only happened in
Internet Explorer and ONLY when the page is loaded through the .cjb address. A quick
email to cjb's technical support reveals they know not how this is happening. The
best way to combat this unwelcome intruder is to view this site from its real address -
which
is members.optusnet.com.au/~hsadler/
or use Netscape or some other browser.
Saturday 1 May 2004
Michael visits!! He brings me greetings from Cario. I think he's really trying
to pull my leg(s) on that one. As if the cat would care enough to send greetings.
