50 cent reverse

The double bar appears behind the Emu's head on the 1979 & 1980 coins. It does appear on the 1966 round 50 cent piece, however it is not quite as bold. The bars were apart of the original design, they were ground out of the dies. (ref: Greg McDonald's Australian Coin and Banknotes)

For the keen collector, the bars do appear on many other 50 cent pieces, the lastest being 2004. These have proved to be very faint and at times a magnifier is needed to detect them.
