1999 the year the obverse design was changed from Raphael Maclouf's younger queen to Ian Rank-Broadley's older queen.

With the advent of the new design, problems were experienced with the minting of some coins. As a result of these problems, changes were made to the Obverse designs on various denominations in 1999. The main difference being the reduced size of the Obverse design. When checking coins of these dates, one should keep an eye on the designers initials as changes in "font" and "size" have been reported

In 1999 four coins exhibiting the two or three design sizes are known.
2 dollar coin
1 dollar - International Year of older persons
1 dollar - Anzac "c" mintmark
10 cent coin

The top left image of the two dollar, clearly shows the difference in design sizes, and the legend closer to the rim on the left ten cent.

One other coin to exhibit similar differences in size, is the 2001 5cent.
