Hot Cross Buns
Ingredients
- 290 mL water
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 2 tbsps butter/oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsps sugar
- 3 ½ cups bread flour
- 2 tbsps milk powder
- 1 tsp bread improver
- 2 ½ tsps dry yeast
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 100 g sultanas
- 50 g currants and diced dried apricot.
Method
- Sift dry ingredients (not fruit) into one bowl. Combine wet ingredients into another.
- Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and and add all the wet ingredients.
- Combine with hands adding the dried fruit.
- Turn dough onto floured board and knead for 5-10 minutes until elastic. Leave in a warm place.
- After dough has risen for about an hour or until doubled in size, roll dough into equal twelve to fourteen equal portions.
- Place on a greased tray, lightly cover and leave in a warm area for about twenty minutes or until doubled in size.
- Bake in a preheated hot oven for ~15 mins, until golden brown.
Notes
- Steps 1 to 5 (up to the division!) can be done in a breadmaker.
