Phnom Penh to Siem Reap by fast boat!!

The fast boat to Siem Reap at its mooring in Phnom Penh.

The next morning at 7:00am, I caught a fast boat from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap in NW Cambodia, where the temples of Angkor Wat are. The boat was reasonably modern and each passenger was allocated its own seat, like on a airline. The boat ticket from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap cost me US$22, discounted from US$25!

Early morning on the Mekong at Phnom Penh.

Departing Phnom Penh by boat, for Siem Reap.

The Sap River on the way to Siem Reap.

The boat took about four hours to cover the 300 km's between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. The boat travelled up the Sap River, and then into Tonle Sap lake, which is really massive.

Arrival at the mouth of Siem Reap River.

The fast boat I arrived on, and some of the smaller boats which where used to ferry us upstream.

After travelling for about four hours we arrived at the mouth of the Siem Reap River. As there is no pier at Siem Reap, we had to transfer to smaller boats and travel about 5 km's upstream, to where we were met by motorcycle taxi's and cars belonging to various touts. Two of these touts started to have a fight on who was going to get my business. I thought they where going to rip my pack apart!! The moto driver I eventually chose, turned out to be a pain, as he was dishonest.

Heading upstream to the town of Siem Reap.
