| Phanom Rung is a Khmer site constructed on an extinct volcanic cone near Buri Ram in north-east Thailand. The temple was built between the 10th and 13th centuries.
There is a long climb from the entrance to get to the temple at the top. It includes some very steep steps. Did the architects have longer legs than us or were the kings responsible for this construction carried? This site was originally constructed as a Hindu monument but has been considered an important Buddhist site for hundreds of years. If you are inspired to visit this site and take the challenge of the steps, I suggest you also visit Prasat Meuang Tam which is only five kilometres away. Dont worry about the steps. Its worth it! |
