Doll's house miniatures - Judy Keena - Australia

Victoriana

Victoriana is my passion, and the challenge for me is to try to reproduce these miniature things with as much accuracy as possible. All items are 1/12 scale.

A gentleman's dressing case with removable tray and bottles copied from one in Old Government House, Parramatta.

Four hand-painted Victorian book covers. Included in the titles are "Confessions of an Elderly Lady and an Elderly Gentleman" (couldn't resist that one) and "Crab and Lobster Law". Even though these could now be made so easily with  high-magnification colour photocopiers and scanners, I'm glad I bothered to paint them by hand--more satisfying really.

Replica (not much bigger than a postage stamp) of Charles Dickens' first edition of
Oliver Twist. I drew it using a fine-tipped architect's pen.

No Victorian home should be without a knife-grinding machine. The handle turns, and several brushes rotate inside. It doesn't actually sharpen my miniature knives, but they get a good brushing! Under the circumstances, I'm not sure that you can call it a working model, but it comes close.

Part of a 1/12 scale porcelain dinner set which I painted for my 1850s dolls' house. The edges are 9 carat gold and I had to apply the raised paste edge with the point of a needle.

The design is from the Ridgeway porcelain factory in England, and was a type of "conversation" set with different flowers painted on each piece.

A late Victorian wall clock, which I made using some of the beautiful laser-etched brass filigree produced by the Scale Link firm in England. (see Links for details)
