    Play free on your birthday
Get a free session if you refer a friend to join
Discount on shoes, racket and restringing
    Free beginner training

    *** Fee Adjustment ***
Due to further increase cost in court hiring and raise of shuttle prices due to the current drop in Australian Dollars, we got no choice but to make the following fee adjustment:
Wednesday night at Dulwich Hill: Member $8, Non-member $12
Saturday night at Lidcombe: Member $9, Non-member $12
The new fee will be effective from 1/1/2009. We are also expecting over half of NSW badminton club making similar adjustment.

    *** Thank you ***
We like to thank everyone for their support in the year 2008:
For representing our club in the external badminton competition or just simply having a friendly game within the club.
For playing fair and taking their turn in using the courts.
For taking one shuttle at a time, bringing back the good shuttle or just been sensible at shuttle usage.
For just being nice and don't mind having an occasional game with the weaker players.

    *** Juniors Training ***
For those whom hadn't notice. This year we had permanently allocates a court for the juniors every Saturday night at Lidcombe and we will continue to do so in 2009. If there are too many players waiting, then the junior are to share the courts like everyone else.

We are accepting more juniors (up to 8) this year between the ages of 8-14. It is first come first serve basis except the 5 already with us in 2008 will have priority over the new juniors.

    2008-9-12
Lidcombe court is CLOSED on the following Saturday: 13/9/2008 & 4/10/2008

    2008-8-2
From Saturday 9/8/2008 - Saturday 23/8/2008, Lidcombe court is CLOSED due to netball final.

    2008-4-11
Starting from the 1st of May please be aware of the following changes.

    1. Saturday Session reduced from 3 hours (7:30pm-10:30pm) to 2.5 hours (7:30pm-10:00pm)
    2. Visitor and NON Member's per session fee increased from $10 to $12 for both Wed and Sat session. Member's fee remained unchanged.

We apologized for sudden changes and especially to our members for the hour reduction.

Reasons for these changes are due to a recent (last week) notice from NSW Netball Centre of court rental increase of 20% to be effective on May this year. If we are to continue to run the club the way it is now, the club will surely lose money based on the average turnout per night. Various options were considered and reduce hour proven to have the least impact on our members and regular visitors. Taking into consideration of the following:
Of the 3 hours session between 7:30pm to 10:30pm
2/3 of the players come after 8pm
1/2 of the players leave before 10pm
Less than 15% of the players stays (not necessary playing) the full 3 hours.

With the reduction in hours, raise in NON members fee are to achieve the following:
    * Discourage the irregular GROUP visitors (non member) to play with us as it may cost them less to book their own court elsewhere. Hence our members had to compete with fewer players for court usage within the reduced hours.
    * Encourage individual regular visitor (non member) to become a member. With the old rate of $10, it roughly works out that 20 visits will equal the membership cost. With the increase to $12, 10 visits will get you your money back and that hasn't even taken into consideration of the benefit which comes with the membership.

Training will starts on the 1st of May. Below is the draft schedule:
    Week 1: Safety and Rules
    Week 2-3: The swing
    Week 4-5: Core footwork
    Week 6: Play for improvement
Week 7-8: Working together in Double
    Week 9-10: Trial and Assessment

Note: This training is free but for member only. Anyone whom are interested, please email me your interest to secure a spot.

    2006-9-9
From Saturday 9/9/06, we are starting to use the new 21 points Scoring System, rules as followed:

    • One service only

    • The service court of the server depends on the serving side score, odd or even.

    • The side winning a rally shall add 1 point to its score.

    • The players change service courts only when a point is scored while their side is serving. In all other cases, the players continue to stay in the same service court from where they played previous rally. This shall guarantee that the serve alternates between the players.

    • The side that first scored 21 points shall win.

    • If a score becomes 20-20, the side, which scores 2 consecutive points, shall win that game.

    • If the score becomes 29-29, the side that scores the 30th point shall win that game.

Sorry people, it has been a while since i last updated this website. Busy at work, my PC is at the repairer, anything you can think of...
Anyway, an update to the result of our interclub teams.

Zealcon Dolly(Ladies Division 3) - even though we came last, our girls' confidence and skill grow with each game played. Near the end, even the top teams are worry that we may steal some sets off them which may effect their oveall scores. Keep up the good work. Next year, we are not just stealing sets, we are going to steal 1st place.

Zealcon Panthers(Mens Division 4 A) - semi-finalist. Most of the players started playing last year. Not a bad result for a team which is just one year old. To the other teams, you(s) are still relatively young and inexperience. Learn from your mistakes, and show us what you(s) are made of next year.

Zealcon Lions(Mens Division 4 B) - same as the ladies team, our second division 4 team are relatively new to the game. Keep on training, next year will be different.

Zealcon Granite(Mens Division 3) - individual you(s) are quite strong but got to learn to work together more. Play as a team and win as a team.

We are enlisting next year's interclub teams already! Training will commence in 2 weeks' time for all interclub players. We are keen.

    2005-05-09

Out of the 39 players attended, 15 players participated in the Beginner's Coaching Program. This is what i really want to see. Even if you are already a fair player, there are always rooms for improvement!

    2004-01-24
    This week, 35 players. Cool!

    2004-01-18
We just finished our 2nd Week, and this time we had 32 players. Not as many as last week, but a good number. Even us committee members get a fair share of the exercise ourselves this time. I still remembered last week, we are so busy organising we didn't really get a chance to play ourselves. So what happened? We went to another club to play the next day!

Last call for players who are interested in the beginner's coaching program officially starting next week. Experienced players are welcome to join as well. If you had some old habit you wants to shake off, or to revise some of your basic strokes. This is a good opportunity to do it.

    2004-01-14
Quality at a discounted price. Have you check out the prices for our Racket Stringing Service. Click here.

    2004-01-10
Thank you for all those people attended our first session. I hope everyone enjoy themselves. We had 42 players in total and our commitee are trying very hard organising games for everyone so that they all get a fair share of the exercise. If we had somehow neglected anyone, we would like to apologize.

Our Coaching Program for Beginners seems to have kick started quite successfully. Around 10 people attended the orientation; all were very enthusiastic to learn. Correct me if i am wrong, i think our coach (Geoffrey) had started the lesson already. Geoffrey told me at the end of the night that a few of the beginners already shown some significant improvement in their stroke. Congratulation ladies! Yes, i did said "ladies". Shame on the guys...

I am already hearing the beginners sulking about sore here, sore there. This 2 weeks are just warming up, wait till the actual program starts on the 3rd week! Geoffrey will continue with the orientation for one more week, since i will be helping Geoffrey planning the Coaching program, i hope i could join you(s) next week.

LOST & FOUND: We found a tube of new shuttlecock. The owner can claim it back from us next Saturday night. I hope he\she remember the brand of the shuttlecock otherwise...

Anyway, special thanks for the Zealcon committee for a job well done and to everyone for being so supportive and patient on our first night.

    2004-01-06
Finally, our affiliation to Greater Badminton of Sydney was completed on the 4/1/2004. The first batch contains 12 members. Special thanks to these 12 people for their support. With the affiliation done, Zealcon Badminton Club as well as these 12 members are now being covered by the insurance taken up by GBAS.

We are planning to start the FREE Coaching Program for Beginners on the 3rd week. The complete program should be ready soon. Remember, you don't need to be a beginner to participate, as some people may want to brush up their basic stroke. But you do have to be a member to take part in this program.

There are no obligations to join our membership, so casual players are most welcome to come and play with us.

Members: Your free club polo shirt should be ready for pickup this Saturday.

    2004-01-01
Happy New Year! The club polo shirt logo are done. To check it out, click here.

    2003-12-23
    Wow!!!
Armortec 700 & 500 are now available to Zealcon. Unfortunately we can't let you "try it before you buy" but look at our price.

After all the run about, we finally decided on the style and the color of our club uniform. It's going to be a White Polo Shirt. How boring! But we are working overtime on the logo, hope you(s) will not be disappointed with the final result.

We had stocked ourselves up with some cheap Yang Yang Grip, only $3.99 each. I will bring in a jar full of them on our opening night.

Hey! We got our first helpdesk call this morning even we don't have a helpdesk as yet. It concerned a user having problem picking up the latest items on our website. I found that the caller's browser keeps on displaying the some old cached contents even after we tried to clear the browser's File Cache, Cookies Caches and History. "Sorry caller, can't help you with this one! Seems like your ISP is the one serving you the old pages". It is quite common that ISP(s) tried to save resources and make themselves more efficient by caching contents, and they tends to overuse the caching mechanism.
There is not much i can do about your ISP but i had put in some META tags on all our pages so that non of them will get cached by your browser. Finger cross, your ISP may be smart enough not to cache these pages from now on.

    2003-12-22
Recently, i had received an enquiry from one of our subscriber about whether a casual player can come and play with us without any insurance cover. I had wrote a reply to him and say that "No, he doesn't need any insurance cover to play with us, but it is only our recommendation that he should join our membership so that he is being covered by the insurance due to GBAS affiliated members."

But just recently, while i was playing at another club, i witness a player seeking compensation from another player which accidental hit him on the eye with a shuttlecock. After a brief chat with some other clubs' organisers, it had prompted me to introduce an new requirement before any Visitors or Casual Players can play with us, they must read and signed a declaration indicating that they as a visitor read and understood that they are not being covered by any form of insurance due to Zealcon Badminton Club(ZBC) or Greater Badminton Association of Sydney(GBAS) members. And, ZBC or GBAS will not be liable for anything happened to or incurred by them during the course of playing with us.

    2003-12-15
Even though there are still a fair amount of pages still 'Under Construction', at least the site are now presentable.

    2003-12-11
We finally finished composing some package deals for our member. See Zealcon Club Opening Special. Remember people, always "try before you buy".

Received the 2004 Greater Badminton Association of Sydney (GBAS) Affiliation Form. We are in the process of collecting ZBC membership for early submission so that our members are being covered under GBAS's insurance scheme as soon as we start next year.

    2003-11-19
