  Admissions Framework

Applying to medical school is a two part process. This is how:

    A. First part - GAMSAT, see ACER
    1. Make sure you satisfy basic requirements: residency status, GPA score, bachelor degree completed or in last 2 years of completion (GAMSAT is valid for 2 years but you must be in your final year or have completed the degree in order to apply to medical school as in part B). Most schools require bachelor degree completed within last 10 years or evidence of other academic study.
    2. From late October - Contact ACER to obtain a copy of the GAMSAT Booklet and GAMSAT Registration form. You can also download the GAMSAT Booklet from ACER website (but not the registration form)
    3. Either return the registration form to ACER with a photo and payment OR register online on the ACER website and then send in a signed declaration form with a photo. Either must be completed by the deadline: 13 February 2004. Remember GAMSAT results are valid for 2 years and can be used for admission application for the following 2 intakes.
    4. Registration deadline for GAMSAT is late January. Late registration is available for an additional fee (usually 2 weeks past normal deadline).
    5. Sit the GAMSAT in late March.
    6. You should receive your GAMSAT results by Mid May. The results are mailed (don't bother calling: no results are released over the phone/fax).  You will automatically receive the application forms for Uni admission with the results. GAMSAT scores are valid for 2 years.
    B. Second part - Medical school application, see ACER
    1. Based on your GAMSAT results decide on whether to apply for admission, if so choose medical school preferences and send in your admission application to ACER by the deadline in early June, International applicants have until 30 June. You must be in your final year or completed your Bachelor degree within last 10 years.
    2. Invitations for interviews are mailed by the Universities by late August. Remember you will only get one invitation at your highest ranked preference where you met the cutoff score.
    3. Sit the interview in August - October
    4. Admission offers are made in November - December
    5. Accept or decline the offer by replying directly to the university.
    6. Second round offers are usually made by end January
