SCHOOLING: Both at Anglo Chinese School (ACS) Seremban; Sing was Shantiniketan House Captain 1957 & 58 and School Captain 1958; active in debate, gymnastics, table tennis, running & discus. San in table tennis, running & netball. Sing completed HSC at King George V, KGV Seremban.
HIGHER EDUCATION: Sing BSc Hons (1964), MSc (1966) Universiti Malaya, PhD (1970) at Australian National University, Canberra. San, a Kirkbyite, obtained University of Liverpool Dip Ed (1961) at Malayan Teachers Training College Kirkby, England.
CAREER: Sau San taught science in several secondary schools including Assunta Secondaryv School, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia (up to 1987) and Catholic Girls High School, Griffith, ACT, Australia. Sing Lectured at UM from1970, Head of Plasma Research Group from 1972, Assoc Prof from 1975 & Professor of Applied Physics from 1984, retired Head of Physics 1991. Joined Nanyang Technological University, National Institute of Education as Professor in Oct 1991; started Plasma Focus Research Labs & Groups, Head of Physics & retired as Head Academic Group of Natural Sciences Oct 2000. Supervised 13 PhD's & 12 MSc's, authoring more than 250 research papers. Was Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at Kernforschungsanlage Juelich 1975-76, Commonwealth Staff Fellow at Imperial College London 1985-86 & United Nations University UNU Fellow at Flinders University 1987. Founded Asian African Association for Plasma Training (AAAPT) 1988, was Founder President till 2004, actively assisting set up and strengthening research labs and groups in 11 countries. Was ICTP Far East Representative & Member of many International Conferences; Founder Member of Scientific Committee of International Centre for Dense Magnetised Plasma, Warsaw; appointed Hon Professor ICDMP in 2000; was consultant to Uppsala University Swedish International Science Programs (ISP) (1992-1993); was President Malaysian Institute of Physics, Vice President ASEAN Institute of Physics and Singapore Institute of Physics,
FAMILY: Sing & San married 1962, daughter Dr Suzie Lee (b 63) married to Dr Loh Seong Feei (b 64), Son Shannon Eng Guan Lee (b 66) married Lee Yuen Hooi (b 66); Granddaughters Sheryl Loh (b 91), Sherilyn Loh (b 94) & Rachel Lee (b 96); now staying in Melbourne: Table tennis (Melbourne 30+ TT Club), Gym (Genesis Oakleigh), snorkelling skiing & travel.
