Naturopathy falls under the broader heading of "Complementary Therapies". Such therapies work alongside the western medical practices with which you are probably more familiar.
Naturopathy offers treatments that are more akin to nature. These treatments provide a reduced risk of the side effects that are sometimes associated with pharmaceutical preparations. It is also often used to treat conditions for which the western medical establishment has limited success or interest.
In the past naturopathy used only techniques such as, hygiene, the consumption of good food and clean water, adequate rest, exercise, proper breathing, posture, meditation, stress management and wild herbs. Today naturopathy can also be considered to be an umbrella term for many "modalities" that are formally studied in colleges.
In all cases, a Naturopath subscribes to the principle that the body can heal itself if given the appropriate conditions. In all modalities, the whole person is treated, not the disease itself. The Naturopath addresses the causes of ill health and supports the body's own healing processes rather than merely suppressing the symptoms.
Naturopathy may be able to assist with:
improving well-being and vitality
fatigue
feeling "not quite right"
mild to moderate anxiety or depression
the effects of stress on health
weight loss
menopausal symptoms
menstrual problems
reduced resistance to infection
slow recovery after infection
digestive problems
hayfever and allergies
cardiovascular health
disease prevention
addressing nutritional deficiencies
and much, much more…
