LA Weekend Tuesday, 03-Aug-1999 00:30:22 207.181.85.66 writes: *Please note, this post contains spoilers relating to the DL ‘99-’00 season of shows. If you don’t want any spoilers, don’t read this post. With everyone back home and safe from our weekend in Los Angeles (at least I assume we all are at this point), it seems appropriate to post a recap of events for our friends and fellow whosers. The Basics: Marsha, Lori, Serena and I all flew to Los Angeles on Thursday. Marsha was flying a different route, so we met up with her at the airport. We rented a car, but since it was quite late when we landed, we didn’t do anything that night (other than head to the apartment and talk and laugh for hours, as is tradition with us wacky folks). The next day, the four of us plus Ashley all filed into the rental car, and we drove around the city a bit. We went to the Mann Theatre, the Walk of Fame, Mulhulland Drive and a quick tour of some rich folks homes. That night, we met up with Ang and Melissa, and everyone went to the Acme Theatre. The first show that night was Houseful of Honkey’s, which includes Wayne, and Colin was a special guest that night. The second show was Acme Unplugged with Brad. It was a special musical night, so all I can say is *ding ding ding* “Sing Funny Man!” On Saturday we saw two tapings of Whose Line, the first with Greg, Wayne, Colin and Ryan, and the second with Brad, Wayne, Colin and Ryan. Sunday was a big lunch at the Cheesecake Factory and a bit of shopping at the Beverly Hills Centre, and then another taping (Greg, Wayne, Colin and Ryan). Monday was a day of parting and travelling and coming home. A busy, very fun weekend! The Tapings: We saw 3 shows being taped, which amounts to about 9 hours of sitting in the studio. No one had a pen and paper to transcribe what we saw, because we just wanted to sit back and enjoy. (If you take your eyes off the guys for too long, you know you’re going to miss something great.) Here are some of the interesting points, and I’m sure if you asked any of us for more details, we’d be happy to provide them (at a minimal fee). o They did credit readings!! It looks like this season of DL will have both a Drew game and then a credit reading. o They filmed a version of Film, Theatre and Television styles with 3 contestants (Ryan, Colin and Greg). It worked really well, so hopefully they’ll do this more often. o One of the new games they tried was something called “Questionable Impressions.” Basically this is the game of Questions Only, but every time a contestant comes onto the stage, they have to be doing an impression. This didn’t quite work very well, and some of us had doubts that it will air. It was, however, funny as hell to see Ryan doing Ed Sullivan and Wayne as Durante. o Song Styles had a familiar ring to it when Drew didn’t pull someone out of the audience, but instead asked for a common household appliance. Wayne sang a gospel song about a toaster! (They didn’t take my suggestion of a strimmer.. go figure.) o A game called Cast Change was introduced, which is basically 3 of a kind. o I really loved a game called “3 Headed Broadway Star”, which was a Drew-involved game. Basically, Wayne, Drew and Ryan all sing the hit from an unwritten broadway show, but each can only sing one word at a time. (At least.. when they remember to only sing one word at a time). Well, I think that will do for now. Accost us if you see us online and are desperate for more details. Someone else might post more too. I dunno. I’m saving all my happy memories inside, like a warm gooey cookie :) (hunh?) The Inside Jokes: And all I have left to report is the rest of the inside jokes/memories from the weekend… (Serena spent hours on the airplane writing these all down, so I’m fairly obligated to actually post them). *grin* -look! It’s Thomas Hayden Church! (it really was too) -Another Dick in the wall (we don’t need no lubrication…) -Page-ticia! -is it a job requirement to dance in that exact spot? -Dr. Scholl’s slightly cheesed bread -Wayne Brady came out to say goodbye to us!?! -hey there’s a microphone under the desk -Extra cheese! Extra cheese! -the Satan wake up call/phone ring -no guard rail! -my medical insurance is in my wallet -awww! He has an itchy eye -what do you have to do to get 2 free snapples? -RALPH’S -die monkey! -5th floor of the parking garage -and the next game is.. kill me now -Serena: you know what kills me? Brooke: sharp knives? Lori: a pack of wolves? Brooke: a loaded gun Lori: old age? (continue ad infinitum) -I may be ____, but I’m not as ___ as Lori. That’s me! -These aren’t my hips. -animal planet -he’s pointing us out, isn’t he? -cheesecake factory? Not enough to eat. -cheesecake factory? Bitter lemonade. Pass the sugar. -the new and improved Mae -it’s not a camera, it’s my tampon -that’s some sweetwater -I am Drew’s Love Bitch -Ryan apologizing to the Green Room -the points don’t matter, just like the host of an improv show -where the hell is the cranapple? -Drew might not have a posse, but he has a Porsche -Ryan’s flaming black shoes. “They comfortably seat 4” – Colin -Canadians can’t rap -Brooke stop laughing, the show hasn’t started taping yet -tantric laughter -hey it’s simcoe day! Break out the figgy pudding and bloody mary! -scalding california tap water -Captain Mountie! -LA radio sucks -Baggy, the anorexic elephant -Braccy, the chile eating dog -Licky, the sea otter with a high salt content -Sparky, the orange flavoured child -Good news: we were picked up, Bad news: we’re up against Friends, Good news: we don’t care! -look it’s nebraska! New mexico! -McChicken? Milk? -Back to School gun sale! -Are you all living here now? -It’s been my birthday for the past 3 days -the state of Miami! -Mmmm.. smell that squid -signing our life away to the DL production company forever, valid anywhere in the universe. Guh. -everyone pull down your pants to save time -I don’t care which sub is yours, just eat it! -9 + 9 = 16? -Dallas is the pits of hell. No, it’s worse. Wayne sang a gospel song about my suggestion!! (+8 Laura Hall has a musical partner-in-crime now! Her name's Linda...S-something, I think, and she plays guitar. And Laura does indeed have a daughter, and is back to her petite little self again. I also really loved that 3-headed Broadway musical, and couldn't stop laughing at it. I also never saw this game called "Game Show", where Greg played this game show host (funny, he is a game show host) and the other 3 played the contestants. Absolutely bizarre at first, but also really funny. All in all, I had a blast. I hope to see you guys next time!
