Monday, August 9, 1999 What's in a name? When your name is Greg Proops, the answer is plenty of potty-minded snickers. For Proops, a quick-witted improv comic and host of Comedy Central's VS. game show (daily, 5 pm/ET), that last name hanging over him is a joke waiting to happen. "I changed it; it used to be Carson," he tells Time Out New York. "But Carson is so ethnic. I wanted a name that is more scatological and easy to make fun of, because I never wanted to go through a day of grade school without having cried openly." VS. pits two teams from different worlds against one another in that cerebral blood sport called trivia. Past match ups have included Soccer Moms vs. Dominatrices, and Capitalists vs. Rastafarians. "We have an amazing casting director who can find a Rasta on Melrose Boulevard in half an hour," Proops quips. Fans of Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace might also know Proops, or at least his voice. He lent his vocal talents to the pod-racing scene as an announcer. Proops reveals, "I'm actually doing an impression of Ron Fairly, the Seattle Mariners' announcer — he always called everything wrong, and I always thought he spoke hilariously." — John Aboud Can also be read here Nessa (UK) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Message thread: Nessa (UK) : Greg ....
