Subject: Messageboard Date: Tue, 13 Jul 1999 12:32:21 +1000 From: Mark Longmuir To: Mark Longmuir Matt: What's Ron West up to these days? (05-Jul-1999 19:54:38) Shellorama di Scodrama: He's probably ripping off some good shows somewhere (sorry, still bitter). (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 02:17:44) Matt the worm-can opener (but this time unintentionally): MIIIIAAAAOOOOWWWW! :) Consider the eyes well and truly scratched! What's your grievance? (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 02:32:07) Molly: It's probably because I think he produced Quick Witz, which a lot of the Whosers don't care for, except when Wayne or Denny are on. A lot of the Houseful of Honkeys perform on it, including the great Jonathan Magnum which I think should be on WL, he's really funny. :) (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 03:23:54) Dean: As Molly said Ron produces the Kwik Witz improv show... I think Ron had his moments, he is one of the performers I like more the more I see him (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 03:42:48) jk: He certainly did have his moments. One of my favorites: World's Worst thing to say at a funeral, when Ron pops out of the coffin and shouts "Surprise!" And his film dub with Paul is also one of my faves. (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 12:14:00) Wayne: he's also on 3rd Rock From the Sun occasionally as Dr. Vincent Strudwick, Tommy's girlfriend's father (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 04:06:17) Molly: Oh that was him? Wow, I knew he looked familiar. (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 13:41:17) Jules: Just IMHO, the Barrister HD and Colin HD are also ones with four excellent verses. (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 15:45:32) TCS: We all have our own opinions, but I personally think he was the worst performer ever... (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 16:43:03) Matt: He was certainly the ugliest... (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 17:28:08) *ding* *ding* *ding* The contest is over! We have our winner! The Most Inappropriate Post Ever is Matt's just above. Thanks for playing! (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 20:51:37) Matt: Sarcasm, cowardice, immaturity - you'd be great at the Emotion Option game. (n/t) (07-Jul-1999 02:00:29) Nick: I actually thought the post was funny (but then again, I have a sarcastic wit as well). Plus it did bring up the point that judging improvisers on their physical attributes is not appropriate. (n/t) (07-Jul-1999 09:54:42) Matt: Who said I was judging Ron on his physical attributes? The original post on this thread was mine - and if you read it, you'll notice I had nothing but good things to say about Ron. *sigh* Why do people take things so seriously here? (n/t) (07-Jul-1999 09:59:41) Nick: Oh, you didn't mean *physically* ugly, you meant..... ? (n/t) (07-Jul-1999 10:06:39) Matt: What I meant Nick... (07-Jul-1999 11:14:02) Brooke: Re: What I meant Nick... (07-Jul-1999 12:09:22) TCS: Unfortunate timing... (07-Jul-1999 14:02:36) lisa s.: You obviously haven't read this board very often if you think that the most inappropriate ever. (n/t) (07-Jul-1999 09:50:34) jk: Worst EVER? Worse than George McGrath? Sam Johnson? George Wendt? Even the infamous Mr. Sessions? Please explain! (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 21:04:41) Lisa: I agree. Ron West wasn't the best ever, but he definitely had his moments. I really agree with that list of worst contestants ever though! (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 21:46:05) dana: HEY! you leave sam johnson alone! and i thought ron was OK as a mad highland dancer, but that's about it :) (n/t) (06-Jul-1999 23:39:26) jk: Wasn't it Jonathan Pryce who was the mad highland dancer? (n/t) (07-Jul-1999 01:13:30) Matt: I thought that on his one appearance, Sam performed his heart out and came through with great credit - he managed to make Ryan laugh during a game, which is no mean feat. :) (n/t) (07-Jul-1999 02:02:13) Molly: I think the worst has to be Archie Hahn and (sorry Deano, don't look) Peter Cook. And I'll always remember the way he managed to tell a story in Authors during a London ep about cricket, even though his nationality bore an immediate handicap. Any news on him? It was merely a throwaway comment which wasn't meant to be anything other than light-hearted. As for the *ding ding* post, it wasn't what was said which annoyed me, it was the fact that yet again, someone has posted anonymously with the single intention of causing bad blood between people. Molly has suffered greatly through this, and still continues to do so. If a user of this MB has a genuine wish to criticise, disagree or scold someone, then they should bloody well have the guts to say who they are, rather than hiding behind the all too convenient option of not filling in the "Name" box, and just sitting back to triumphantly watch the arguments which follow. On WL? itself, we see regular snipes at Clive because he is bald, which Colin also received, though to a much lesser extent. Greg gets digs because he has to wear spectacles. Sandi used to be regularly teased because of her lack of height. I think Ron was a very assured and imaginative improviser and I am not shallow enough to decide whether someone is good or not purely because of their physical attributes. Nick, I wish I hadn't done it and I'm sorry if you or anyone else were offended. But as Lisa says, far worse posts have been put on this board - and the majority of them have been deliberate bait for disputes to occur - and have been anonymously posted. My post does not apply on either count. If it's any consolation Nick, I'm no oil painting either! Comments like that should be saved for the schoolyard at recess, and not put on a discussion board like this.
